Let's explore culture in education using Hofstede's model of organizational culture. Hear educators from Brazil, China and Russia analyze their educational culture through the lens of symbols, heroes, rituals and values in education. When we use Hofstede culture model, it is also easier to adapt culturally responsive teaching by arranging the education system in accordance with cultural contexts.
Andre Hedlund speaks about education in Brazil, Flora Wei Ran speaks about education in China, Ilnur Miftakhov speaks about education in Russia.
This is the first episode of the Educators Talk Series.

Thank you! Yes, exactly - this means that there are certain fundamental assumptions about education all over the world that keep replicating same problems. I think it is a beautiful topic to ponder. Because understanding these fundamental processes helps massively when you initiate change processes in educational systems. Hopefully, more videos are coming!

Dear Ilnur Absolutely unique and fascinating insights into three different educational cultures. That was a great project! Some ideas for future vlogs: - Russian Best Teacher of the Year contest and how it relates to other countries (differences in approaches) - What are the strong and weak points of the Russian education system on the secondary and tertiary levels Keep up the great work! 👌😉

Denis, THANK YOU for your support and for these great ideas! 😍 I will definitely think about them. I was also thinking about doing the same kind of cultural analysis with educators from some other countries as well - do you think that would be of interest? By the way, if you have educator friends who might be interested in this kind of content, please invite them - it would be HUGE boost for a beginning KZbinr like me. *Thank you so much! More videos are coming!*

Interesting, I am from Bolivia and my early education and middle school was definitely different from USA. I loved the change.

Wow! I know NOTHING about Bolivia! Can you share just a glimpse? Genuinely curious. This is why I like this topic - comparing international contexts of education brings so much joy and comprehension.

This video is super! For the first time in my life, someone responded to my comments. I listened with great pleasure to the experience of teaching in Brazil. His smile immediately caught my eye. Such cheerful, contented people. I was also glad to see the drawing of the onion because I lost the notes from that lecture. I will have to watch this video carefully again and record some points. I like your English so much. Tell me your secret as you can speak so fluently. Sometimes I feel ashamed in front of my students when they know English better than I do. Please tell me how can I reach the same level as yours? Thank you for the opportunity to hear about the experience and impressions about education in Brazil and China.

I am glad you found this video of use! I enjoyed it very much myself: the thing is you can understand some other environments FAR DEEPER if you look at the values level directly. Because values are the roots of all the other characteristics of any social phenomena. If you grasp the values of an object, you understand the essence of that object. That's why this particular approach helps, say, to understand educational cultures of Brazil and China rather well.

As for my English, thank you very much! I don't feel completely comfortable with it and I do keep working on it. I have certain vision on how to manage my own learning of anything. In short, partly it is about motivation - sometimes I make myself realise that if I don't learn something, it will close certain options in my life path - the pain of acknowledging it really helps. Then comes the technical side of things - how exactly you craft the learning process. I think this is an important topic and maybe I should make one of my future videos about it.

@@IlnurMiftakhov Yes, I agree with you "if I don't learn smth, it will close certain options in my life...", "If you grasp the values of an object, you understand the essence of that object".
