When she said there's a "cap " on the salary scale, that broke my heart!!! So much work goes into teaching these kids!

I am a education specialist and this is my first year is a mild mod k-3 class. I feel conflicted because often times I question if I made the right choice on my career. I love special Education but sometimes you feel left out as a teacher. Depending on your school site they tend to leave you out but I continue to tell myself fitting is isn’t my goal. My goal is to reach these babies who need it most.

Be happy with that! Don't attend meetings after-school and happily go home. I hate when people come looking for me!

i feel the same when we have professional developments i feel like its not that much that pertains to me or its often repeated so i go out and continue getting more information on my own and they are costly but worth it

I’d like to do mild to moderate special education resource as a career. As a minority former student who had an IEP I want to help students who also have learning disabilities. Thank you for this and sharing. I’m getting emotional typing this because I feel doing this would be my calling.

What was her major to obtain this job? Do you have to get a masters for this Job? Is the job easily accessible in the PA, VA, WV, OH areas? I would like some more information on this job?
@kyeshiawhite74015 жыл бұрын
Michelle Bischak I believe up need a masters degree for a resource specialist. So search for programs in your area and ask them some questions to get to know your options.

I'm not familiar with those states but in Arizona you need a bachelor's degree in Special Education and pass the teaching certification for Special Education
@stephaniecooper28784 жыл бұрын
No Master's needed in CA but one must be credentialed in Special Education. Additional requirements vary between elementary and secondary. This is my 16th year as an RSP (Resource Specialist Program) teacher and I truly love doing my job.

@@stephaniecooper2878 If I have my BS in Psychology in California, to get a credential in Special Education -is that a year long program THEN would I have to get another credential in RSP or ? Thanks!
@karlamartinez5362 жыл бұрын
@@LarryStyIes all you need is a bachelors and get into a credential program for Special education. Once you pass the CBEST, CSET, RICA, and complete your program you obtain your preliminary credential. With that you could work as an RSP teacher. No need to get additional certification or credentials. I hope it helps.

70K ? What district? She didn't say if she has a Bachelor or Masters. It depends on that an the district.
@imaof45 жыл бұрын
She did say she has a Masters. She also said she is in California (no mention of district). Starting salary with a Masters at $48,000 is about what schools in Maryland pay. but there is no set standard across the board in the US. Different counties and school systems have pay increases that are aligned within their school system. For example, the Baltimore County School System has a step program, where increases are incremental yearly. Also, there is a higher salary for different levels of certification

How are you working on their goals if you are modifying the regular curriculum.?
@ibladyj72 жыл бұрын
The regular curriculum is modified so that they can increase their enrichment when they participate in class, (i.e. they actually learn something even if it's a difficult concept for them). When she pulls her students for small groups or individually, she can work on their goals directly. Plus depending on the goal some can be worked on with the in class activities.
