Very first round tells everything; you had the most eliminations and very few deaths. You were doing more damage than either DPS, AND you did more healing than the other support (which shouldn't be happening). Still, people who stand out in the open facing the entire enemy team and don't use cover are complaining about needing more healing and asking for swaps. If it happens to him, it will happen to you. Ignore it completely.

Here's some useful tips that's helped me so far with this video outside of the normal tips you hear on zen. 1. Always stay around cover when dealing damage 2. Only Volley your orbs when you're not being looked at, when the enemy is looking at you, deal left click damage 3. Discord whatever enemy you're shooting at, there's no particular order on who you discord first just make sure it's the enemy you're shooting at 4. When the enemy is pushing your team, walk back. When the enemy is falling back push them. 5. Don't be afraid of taking 1v1s if their dps engage you 6. Don't spend time trying to push payload unless absolutely no one else is doing it. You should be getting into positions to do damage. 7. Always play out of absolute range (example hogs hook) 8. Don't be afraid to flank and always take angles. Especially with Trancedence. 9. When using trance in team fights wait until you absolutely need to before using it. Your damage is more important. (For example if you're caught in grav but there's no damage being done to your team in grav don't feel forced to use ult) 10. Don't get conformatable staying at one angle for too long. Always engage switching your positioning after the enemy starts to focus their attention on you. 11. Never rotate in the middle of the fight. Always rotate in the beginning or end of the fight (for example taking high ground) 12. Don't let the enemy engage a choke for free, always spam their points of entry before entering 13. Ignore your team if they're being toxic about you playing zen. you can't heal them more than zen's base output of healing. Its up to them to play safely when they're orbed with healing 14. When you're at a disadvantage in a team fight don't be afraid to flank, you have no footstep noise and can catch their backline off guard to change momentum of the fight 15. If you notice you're dying a lot, it's a positioning problem. Learn from your deaths how you could've positioned yourself better to stay alive by keeping the right amount of distance between you and the enemy. Bonus: your comp doesn't matter. You can carry with zen majority of the time regardless of what your team is doing or who're they're playing. Figure out what you could've done better to win after losing and focus on that the next game. Treat every loss as it's your fault even when it's not, because all you can control is your game play Damage damage damage. This has helped me a ton, 71% winrate with zen since watching this and have been climbing so quickly since watching this video piece by piece.
@ayubious Жыл бұрын
these are all good. another important tip especially with immobile heroes like zen is to not only play around cover but to also have a retreat plan at all times for when enemies chase you or dps flank. train your map knowledge over time to the level where you know which spots can give you an advantage if they chase you, and health packs that can bail you out

Honestly, I've been playing OW since its release and have always loved playing Zen regardless of the unwarranted hate he elicits from fellow players because he doesn't "provide enough heals". I’m sure I have multiple 100’s of hours on him and used to think I knew what I was doing when I locked him in. Watching this video has seriously helped me re-tool my thinking during matches. Specifically, I think the following quotes Awkward into two rules and two mindsets I follow when I play Zen. Committing to these principles has helped me see rapid improvement in my personal game play with respect to both rank and performance stats: Rule #1: "Damage, Damage, Damage.. " - While I always knew damage and picks were critical to being successful while playing Zen, Awkward's relentless pursuit of damage from all angles is a complete paradigm shift for me. I used to always concentrate on keeping discord and harmony orbs to keep my heal numbers up while filling in with damage where I could. This video illustrates why the complete opposite approach is important. Yes, healing your team is important and you should keep both orbs out as much as possible BUT you should be obsessed with constantly finding damage throughout the match. Rule #2: "They move back, I move forward.. They move forward, I move back" - Nearly 100% of Zen guides will tell you that positioning/rotating is absolutely critical with this hero and anyone who's played Zen knows why that you can't run away from anyone once caught out of position. While these guides correctly identify positioning as an important aspect of Zen's gameplay, they rarely identify practical ways to incorporate this into your gameplay. Yes, higher level players will have a certain level of map knowledge that only comes from extensive experience and time spent on each map but the general advice of playing off the other team's movement is brilliant. The biggest result of incorporating this simple principle into my game play is that my deaths per match have been greatly reduced. It turns out.. the less you die then the more damage you do and satisfy rule #1 (Damage Damage Damage!) and heals too I guess... Mindset #1: “My healing orb’s out, what more do you want me to do..” - I cut my teeth in FPS games during the heyday of COD 4 - Modern Warfare. One of my favorite parts of the game was to get online with friends, absolutely destroy the other team, and then talk a bunch of **** in the post game lobby to that team. I AM NEITHER PROUD OF THIS NOR ENCOURAGE THIS BEHAVIOR. I mention this to illustrate that I have a pretty high threshold for “toxic” behavior in video games however I have always gotten triggered by the feeding Soldier 76 who demands “more heals” but blindly smashes the W key until eliminated. When faced with a similar situation, Awkward simply informs his team the orb is out what more can he do and continues pursuing more damage. Not allowing other players’ comments affect your gameplay is critical to both having fun and performing well. Know what your role is as Zen and what you can or can’t do about the current situation is key to OW2 mental health.. Mindset #2: “If I do my job, it gives my team the best chance to win..” - Ohhh… apparently GM level players are immune to the invariable “Zen can u switch?” requests. In my experience, this rarely comes from a player who is demonstrating anything resembling “competent” game play. I don’t play at a rank level where “meta” even matters so the idea if I go out and get consistent damage, help my teammates win their duels, and play with decent game sense/communication.. more often then not I am winning at my current rank. The short answer to the switch request is.. no. But the more in depth rationale as to why I am not switching is that I am not going to switch off a player I can play competently to assuage the incorrect belief that more healing = match wins. Final Thoughts: This is a must watch video for anyone seriously wanting to develop their abilities on Zenyatta. I actually re-watch this video while waiting for matchmaking just to continually reinforce principles Awkward reiterates throughout his game play. TLDR: Watch the video, this dude knows his stuff..

after 1.5s of taking no damage, he heals from the support passive (15/s), then 1.5s after that his shield health regenerates (30/s). from near-zero to full, he fully heals after about 7 seconds, whereas most need around 15 seconds at base. this can allow you to take weird off-angles without needing to worry about where your teammate support is, as long as you dont get dove. playing cover, corners, and highgrounds is crucial

Be sure to Discord THEN charge the five orbs. 00:20:00 Kill an enemy from one spot? Go to a different spot. Repeat. (but from a different spot) 00:20:00 AUTH likes "Wraith Form" Trance. Hm... "I'm not holding my Q for anything special." 00:23:00 Transcendence speech. 00:24:00 I'm not hitting my shots? AUTH says we gotta ignore players that tell us to swap. By not swapping? I would spend much more time pressing LMB as Zen. >> This is a good point. (NOTE: AUTH doesn't mention slash hidechat or muting ppl. Hm.) 00:25:00 Be confident. You gotta win more games than you lose to rank up. 00:31:00 NOTE: To use Trance? You can't be too far. So your positioning has to be 'close' ish. 00:39:00 Positioning speech. 00:40:00 AUTH: Screw the PL. Set up for the next fight. Someone else will push PL. (I agree ish with this logic. Though I've learned to NOT trust my teammates over the years.) 00:42:00 Compare ZenvsWinston, compared to ZenvsReinhardt

Watch 3/4 of the vid (skipped between unranked to diamond), took notes, different angles, positioning, in one about 25+ games I went from plat 2 (which I swore I was hard stuck in) to Diamond 1. Absolutely incredible! Didn't know what I had till I saw you. Now I just need to fine-tune, micromanage, get used to the new pressure, and ofc, end fights quick so I can start doing more damage next fight. Thank you so much. It really is crazy. And btw, anyone reading this who's worried about the amount of healing in a team, my best combos tonight have been me (zen) and a Lucio. Stopping the damage from happening to your team is the best way to heal
@InceyWincey2 жыл бұрын
I had a control game as DVa and our supports went Zen and Lucio. I have the philosophy that complaining never helps so I decided since I wasn’t going to get enough heals for an extended team fight I’d have to do my best to end it immediately. Luckily the Lucio seemed to have the same idea and so we flew out of spawn, round the map and dived their back line from behind, cleaned their team up from back to front in about 10 seconds flat, and then repeated the process until the round ended. We ended up winning 2-0, both rounds 100-0, and it was one of the most fun matches I’ve ever played.

I spent most of my day watching this and what I've learned as a new support main is don't tell your team what to do and ignore what others demand you to if it's something like "hey go switch to this" seeing you play zen for 6 hours made me realize these things and I think I should try to main him now x)
@Summonick2 Жыл бұрын
The first game he’s actually carrying so hard that his team gets confused. I’ve seen this in qp with friends before, I carry literally so hard that they think they are gods and start doing insanely stupid stuff, because they are far too low rank to understand what’s going on and why the enemy is melting

Having gold players yell at you is so funny. Played an intense game as Zen, did just as much damage as the dps and tanks, healed as much as i could and got multiple game winning picks. One of our players was streaming so i went to their vod to see what they’d being saying, turns out they were flaming me the whole time for playing Zen. Some people will never be happy.

This man is part of the reason most of you are hard stuck and everyone is thanking him. As long as 'educational' is in the title people turn a blind eye to the blatant smurfing. Honestly you (awkward) do a good job explaining and are clearly humble but you and others doing this are an enigma in the ranking system. You shouldn't need to body low elo players to teach people how to play at a high level.

Thanks for this, I am slowly making my way through the entire video. 1:10:23 I have also found that sometimes with Zen with Overwatch 2, it feels very laggy and shots that I am sure should hit just seem to miss. It doesn't happen all the time, but will sometimes happen (it isn't lag as my ping is 25ms). I have about 300 hours with Zen so I don't feel that I am talking out of my backside. This is a newish thing with OW2 that occasionally happens. On a separate note, I love your content (I have 3 months in total subbed on twitch).

@dylanortiz84072 жыл бұрын
IND is interpolation delay. It’s basically the time it takes your client to receive data packets that display in your game where characters are in the game. If your IND is to high, you’re basically shooting where something was but not exactly where the server believes the character is exactly. So on a high precision hero, it makes it difficult to land headshots. When targeting the body it doesn’t give you as much trouble because the hit box of the body is bigger so even if you aim center of chest and the character jumps, you still hit them in the leg area.
@someonekenobi2 жыл бұрын
