Society changes what they think people "should" look like - a couple centuries ago, all the women were supposed to have really big hips, for example. But what matters is taking care of ourselves mentally and physically. Your body doesn't have to fit anyone else's idea of perfection; it just needs to be taken care of. ❤️

I’m Canadian but I’ve lived in France for over a year and this is so true. The bread and butter\jam for breakfast and it seems like everyone eats yogurt after lunch. There are so many aisles in the grocery store for yogurt. Only one option of peanut butter, if you’re lucky, but 1000’s of yogurts! From my experience French people do not eat at their desk or in their cars like we do in North America.

@paahcoccioli4 жыл бұрын
In Italy eating while walking or in your car is frowned upon. You HAVE to have a proper sit down meal and even if it's at work or in uni we take time to sit down together and talk. There's also a very ritualistic order. First dish (pasta, rice, soup or carb based dish), second dish (protein, either meat/poultry or cheeses, deli meats, sometimes even a yogurt) with contorno (side of vegetables or salad), then you'll have pudding which is 90% of the time seasonal fruit (clementines in winter are such a classic) and then an espresso. And then a cigarette if you smoke. But most of all you take the time to enjoy your colleagues or family's company. I remember being shocked when I first moved to the UK that at work only 2 people at a time would be allowed to go to lunch and they wouldn't talk to me but just eat their food while staring at their phone or reading a book.

Here in the US, most bad eating habits falls on parents. I'm 48, and have raised 7 children, now aged 13 to 30 (2 of them we fostered, raising). In the past 30 yrs, I can't believe the number of parents who say their children will only eat chicken nuggets, hot dogs, mac and cheese. How is this even an option? The parents buys and cooks the food, making the nutritional decisions, not the 3 yrs old. Child then forms those habits, continuing as if it is normal. A child will not starve if they aren't given junk every day, and they won't even throw a tantrum about it if not shown that is an option. Mine, even the teens, all eat healthy on their own because that is what is normal to them and what they expect, a healthy diet with treats and junk as a treat once in awhile. It starts with Mom & Dad. We are seeing preteens with diet related signs of heart issue and pre-diabetes. That's not ok.

In Spain we eat the same, morning is either a croissant with coffee and fresh orange juice. Or my favorite is multi grain toast with tomato and a olive oil and some salt , coffee and fresh orange juice. Also the coffee is always an espresso and it’s very tiny in comparison to the Starbucks portions for lattes etc. Lunch always has a small portion of soup or salad for appetiser and then second dish is meat or fish with veggies or potato or rice. Again the portions are so tiny. For dessert is always fruit or yogurt. And dinner is pretty much similar but usually it’s even more tinny and it’s usually a soup or a salad. Again dessert is the same. And after lunch and dinner we always have herbal teas or coffee( mostly an espresso for lunch) I usually will have mint tea for lunch and chamomile tea for dinner in order to help with digestion ( also chamomile is perfect to relax before sleep). Aaah and the snacks are usually a small sandwich with fresh bread or just two cookies with tea or milk or juice. Again small portions!

That's how some islands in the Caribbean are due to the European influence. A basic breakfast, heavy lunch and a basic dinner. Breakfast: omelette or sausage and crackers or cocoa tea and bakes (it depends on if it's weekend or week day). Maybe bread and avocado or porridge. Lunch: provision (fig, dasheen, yam, sweet potato) and meat (fish was more common before), soup, fish broth, pelau (rice and chicken one pot). Vegetables and beans are included too lol. Snack: fruits, yogurt. Our cakes are low in sugar (in some islands) but definitely not the flagship of our diet. Dinner: Honestly idk. Dinner really isn't important. Maybe just cereal or just tea. I just eat two scrambled eggs (No bread...just the eggs) The obesity rate in the Caribbean has gone up because of the Americanisation (KFC, refined carbs). I maintain my weight effortlessly by eating a strict Caribbean diet (as long as my portions are sane).

I traveled to the US and I thought the starter I got in a restaurant was the main course! In Europe we rarely eat in between meals and our portions are smaller. Please believe though, not everyone in Paris or Rome or London is thin! But we are smaller than our American cousins.

Another thing the Americans do is to eat quickly and in large amounts. It was actually in the 18th century that a French philosopher described American eating as "Gobble, gulp, and go." One thing I hate about my country is that we always seem to be in a hurry to get somewhere else, which is why fatty, processed fast food is such a desirable option. Have you seen the size of some of our fast food dinners? And that they're usually cheaper than a healthy alternative. If I go to a McDonalds (which is maybe twice a year), I'll order just a plain hamburger, a small bag of fries and a small soda. They look at me like I'm from another planet.

I'm American and I don't know anyone who has the same meal five times a week or even twice a week unless they are maybe warming up left overs. Although college students have been know to eat their way through college on only pizza and ramen...

Thank you for this information about vegetarian meals. I gave up beef and pork many years ago and am thinking about giving up poultry as well. Your beautiful skin is obviously a by product of your healthy diet. I’m an American and we don’t eat the same thing daily and I don’t know anyone who does.

A lot, a lot of people meal prep and eat the same thing a couple of days a week. It's common with people who are eating a certain way for fitness goals.

Totally agree with you. I grew up with home cooked meals, in very reasonable portions. I’m 65 and I can’t believe how large portion sizes are here in the US. Sometimes it makes me physically ill when they put large portion sizes in front of me. Yes, I’m American.

do you think another factor in the difference between French and American foods are the use of herbs and spices and their requisite nutritional values making the recipes better tasting, more satisfying in smaller amounts, and healthier?

I’m from the U.S. I eat the same breakfast for 5 days. It’s typically yogurt and fresh fruit. Lunch is usually turkey sandwich with mustard. But, this is only because I work and want something easy, but still healthy. Dinner is different every night, unless there is leftovers (which is rare.) I don’t even cook the same thing from the week before. A lot of people from the U.S. work 40+ hours a week, so if the same food is eaten 5 days in a row, it’s more likely out of convenience.

I'm researching about how to have good relationship w/ food. And I realized Italians and the French are almost similar when it comes to moderation and quality of food. In my area, everything is just expensive as heck and I thought might as well adapt to Italian food principles. And adding difficulty is that my family's diet mainly consists of oily, fried red meat. I have to separately buy my veggies so just I can make fermented foods out of it, w/c adds costs 😆

Hi Lucie! I’m just watching you for the first time & I did enjoy this video . Just want to comment that we never eat the same thing for dinner twice in a week. In my family we might have chicken once,,then a beef dish, a pasta , pizza on Friday’s etc. The only time I might repeat a dish in a week is if I made a huge portion ; enough for a second night. Hoping to see more of your videos ! I will subscribe!☺️
