Just to add to the story, the Concerto was written for a British style Eb Tuba for Tuba and Brass Band. The Tubas in brass bands are the same as the one pictured in Eb and and the lower Bb, all with 4 compensating piston valves. Back to the music, with great orchestratuon by Gregson,what a wonderful work and a great performance by the renowned Scot, James Gourlay.

Very impressive and especially so on what seems to be a three valve horn. It sounds much bigger than it is. What is it?
@riabrezova86826 жыл бұрын
Maybe I don't understand you. It is not horn, but it is tuba.

As a tuba and euphonium player, I'm quite aware it's a tuba and not a French horn! I suppose I was just being idiomatic. In any case, Mr. Gourlay produces a big, round sound from what seems to me a relatively small and uncomplicated instrument--not fourth or fifth valves or new fangled gadgets.

Thank you very much for explanation. I wish you lovely day!

It's a 4-valve compensating tuba in Eb. You can't see the fourth valve well because it's on the side.

Wow, just like most compensating euphoniums (with the fourth valve on the side). I learned tuba as a kid on BBflat and have played a CC since 1973, but have never seen an Eflat up close. The information is much appreciated. Mr. Gourlay has a fabulous sound.
