My dad thought so highly of Hillbilly and spoke of him often.

Nice. [I actually only just noticed your name after Stefanie commented]. If you are Eugene's son thank you for his service and the wonderful history he provided us.

Oh My Gosh! Mr Sledge, Are you Really Eugene’s Son?? Sorry, Maybe that’s a Dumb Question, since you referred to him as your Dad- I was just surprised to see a comment from you bc I didn’t think that you’d watch content about WWII on KZbin- Anyways, Im just another WWII enthusiast who holds all of the men that served SO Bravely like your Dad in The Highest Regard- To me, They were and are The Truest Heroes our Great Country has Ever Had- And, My Gosh, What an Honor it No Doubt is to have Eugene “Sledgehammer” as your Dad! Sorry for blabbing So Much, I was just excited to see your comment- Wishing you and your family Many Blessings Mr Sledge

Thanks for your kind words. Yes, I am his son. Always glad to see people showing an interest in The Pacific and of course my dad. There are some videos on Reel History with Jared Frederick where he and I discuss the series.

@@henrysledge645 I have done a couple of videos on Eugene. They are back a little on my content list.

I stand in awe over these heroes. Thank you for telling us about them. My mother was an Army Nurse in the ETO, 3rd Army. To her dying day she prayed over the G.I.'s who so wounded in battle.

Hillbily and Ack Ack were the opposite of the John Wayne style "leader"...preceptive, quiet but firm, listened to their non coms, always looked out for the welfare of their men, calm under fire, brave to a fault, which finally got them killed. Just pure heroes .

I’m not a Marine but as a Seabee I was always imbedded with the Corps. Few outside the Corps will understand the culture regarding officers and enlisted Marines. It’s the most unique relationship that’s unofficial and seldom spoken. The Corps has the highest percentage of former enlisted in the officer ranks. The other branches don’t share the same two way street in terms of mutual respect. I’m speaking in terms of broad terms concerning the branches. I have a saying that was given to me by an army enlisted tanker instructor who taught Army and Marine Corps tank crews. “Any Marine Corps officer kicked out for unsat performance, would make an outstanding Army officer”. That wasn’t my quote😂 but I use it.

His nickname comes from him saying it all the time In the Marines you could get a nickname by making comments about things going on SNAFU "Situation normal all f**ked up"

@tabbithacampfield4116 yeah thanks for the the info but I already knew the definition of snafu. I'm curious how Mr. Shelton got specifically the nickname snafu, Did he mess up in bootcamp or something like that.
@tabbithacampfield4116Ай бұрын
@@jwspeakermre5968 Having been a Marine grunt. I would say it's from his constant bitching about the present situation He was in at the time. Marines bitch about almost anything or the situation they may be in at the time As an example The command tells us the operation is going to be like this. In reality it goes totally 180% out SNAFU. We had a Marine in my platoon. That found fault in everything command did SNAFU type character he was also a mortar man like SNAFU and Sledge
