Edward MacDowell (1860-1908) was an American composer and pianist, most well-known for his two piano concertos, but he also wrote many delightful short pieces for piano, among which these four marvels collectively titled "Forgotten Fairy Tales", published in 1897 as opus 4. Each piece has its own individual title to set the scene, with time stamps for each given below:
0:00 I. Sung outside the Prince's door
2:03 II. Of a Tailor and a Bear
4:13 III. Beauty in the Rose-Garden
6:43 IV. From Dwarf-land
MacDowell's latter years were unfortunately troubled by depression and illness resulting in his premature death at the age of 47, but he nevertheless wrote some magnificent picturesque music with his uncanny ability to portray moods through music.
All my videos are live recordings of me playing on a Casio Celviano Grand Hybrid GP-500.
The use of headphones is recommended for a better listening experience.
Please note I am not a professional pianist and I record and make these videos in my spare time for fun, as I greatly enjoy playing and exploring the vast repertoire of lesser known piano composers throughout history. The purpose of this channel is not to show off my piano skills (or lack thereof), rather it is to showcase unknown composers and hopefully give them more recognition. Comments are always welcome, and consider subscribing to the channel if you like more similar videos.
Thanks for watching!
