I am a Yank and have loved Wdward forever and to see this side of him is overwhelming/, He didn't have to make it as an actor, he could have so done as a singer.

I love Edward Woodward ever since my childhood days when my Dad had his records. MY Dad wrote to him to tell him how much I also liked him and I received a letter back from him with some signed photos.

My Aunt met Edward Woodward many years ago through the British Red cross, and told me what a wonderful person he was. He done a great deal for charity, and will be sadly missed by us all. I myself never listened very much to his singing, only his acting, but must confess he sings this 1st world war song very well, and suits his talent, as a singer.

Just had to add my heartfelt thanks to a great actor and singer. I first fell I love with Edward after being besotted by him in Challan, I as heartbroken when that 'rat' Meres killed him off. I never liked Anthony Valentine for years after and Patrick Mower but followed his career throughout. I used to watch The Good Old Days and couldn't believe his wonderful soft voice. Am now trying desperately to find CD of his albums as I can't play vinyl. Of course who can forget The Wicker Man you can't better this no wonder it's become a classic. Rest I Peace you gorgeous man, all the best to the family. Mary Littlewood Sheffield

I just learned something new about Mr. Woodward...Fantastic singing voice...Beautiful song! Amazing how many actors are or were also accomplished musicians, Avery Brooks, Stacy Keach, Dudley Moore, Dominic Chianese, & Micheal Moriarty are some that immediately come to mind, now I can add Edward Woodward to that list. I did an article in a jazz magazine a while back about this very thing, how I would love to have added "The Equalizer" to its' content..God Bless You, Mr. Woodward...A true artist.

I have never heard him sing before now. He is a sensational and highly underrated actor and singer. An upcoming independant movie called 'A Congregation of Ghosts' features Edward Woodward as the historical Rev. Densham, the 'Mad Vicar of Warleggan' from 1950's Cornwall. A friend of mine attended an advance screening and describes Woodward's performance as astonishing in a role that Woodward himself has declared to be his final major film appearance.

Fred Smith - so you say everyone has to have the same opinion as you? No one is allowed to dislike something if you like it eh? Next step presumably is to track them down and kill them so their thoughts do not contaminate your Utopia. Puts you right up there with Kim Jong wotsit, and Saddam and all the other dictators of history.

Whoa there Fred! - did it never occur to you that maybe I was mining the rich seam of irony you had exposed? Did you not notice my deliberate contravention of Godwin's law in not actually mentioning the Infamous German dictator of the 1930s, nor using the abbreviated version of the name of his political party?

A great actor, who gave great pleasure to all of us. It was very sad to hear of his passing away. All of our wonderful actors are now going, that its nice to remember them all, with great affection. Edward woodwards acting was superb, and he done it so well, that he was a natural . I thought he done breaker Morant first class, and is one of his best films. He will be greatly missed by all of us.

He use to smoke a minimum of 100 a day, some days during long days of filming he could get through 140 a day. He said that he'd sit in a chair at home and chain smoke for 2 hrs each evening and get through 30-40 In that 2 hour period. Making it to 79 was pretty good considering his legendary smoking habbit

I agree with overopensights: this version must sound close to what Kern intended on stage in 1914 - perhaps the first musical theatre ballad in "4/4" with a modern sensibility both melodically and lyrically. RIP, Mr Woodward.
