I bought the FG830 last year, after reading and watching a lot of reviews on Takamine, Seagull, Fender etc. to replace my old 20 years guitar and I fell in love with Yamaha, cost me around 500$ CAN which is very affordable for a guitar with these build quality, sound etc. I REALLY like mine.

In my opinion, the FG830 is a tad bit better in sound quality. They both sound good, but the LL6 is not so much better that I would spend the difference. Thanks for sharing!!

I have FG830, it is great but it is a bit too bulky for me, I would prefer smaller body for my next acoustic. I think LL6 and some beginning line Taylor are bit smaller in body shape, naturally they are more expensive. I f the size of FG830 is not the problem, I think it is great instrument.

They’re hard to beat man. Now I’m in a predicament as I own the fg830 and I’m looking for another guitar with a smaller body and I’m still on a budget. Problem is The fg 830 is so good that it’s hard to compete and a lot of the other Yamahas that do are basically the same with rosewood back and sides and I don’t want something close to it I love it so much I don’t wanna replace it’s. Mine has had a tusq saddle and nut upgrade the action has been lowered plays nice and now it’s getting a worn in sound from hours upon hours of use since I bought it a year and a half ago. I joke with my girlfriend and say it’s the standard upon which I base every guitar up to 1500 dollars. I would not sell that thing unless offered more than it was worth new and even then I have had so much quality time with that guitar and love it so much idek if I could part with it then. I plan on keeping it for the rest of my life. That should tell you a lot right there.

Yes, the LL6's ARE treated top has a lot to do with that. Both are exceptional guitars for the money and in the under £600 bracket blow the lower end Martin's and Taylor's (with their HPL and Richlite fretboards) out of the water.

Both my son and I own the FG830. I had thought of picking up the LL6 but the Yamaha presenters do not tell us the LL6 has a lminated back and sides just like the 2 830's we own. Presenters state only "Mohogany or Rosewood" back and sides. When truthfully, they are Mohog and Rosdewood VENEER over layerd NATO. $200 more coin of the realm for cooked spruce tops? Seems to be the case!!!
@RobertNolan

LL16 is the solid back and sides. Roughly $1000 USD but it comes with a case apparently.
@paulneedham9885
@paulneedham9885 2 жыл бұрын
If it doesn't state "solid" then its Plywood of Laminate!! All manufacturers do that, they don't have to state it! Are you sure its Nato in between?? Has that been confirmed to you or is that a guess? I´d like to know as Yamaha used to use plywood not laminate (they are different) all of the same wood.

Thanks for doing a comparison between this two guitars, I was wondering how the newer scalloped bracing FG830 would sound compared to the LL6 non-scallop but with A.R.E. technology.... The LL6 definitely sounds better imo.
@Edward1312
@Edward1312 7 жыл бұрын
I agree that the LL6 is better sounding, the FG830 may catch up a little as the top begins to open out but that will take years. What I would say though is that in the last 3 years Yamaha has really upped its game in the under £700 price range (I've seen the all solid wood LL16M ARE as low as £650). I would class the new 800 series as spectacular for the money and the revamped LL series with all models now with ARE Engelman treated tops is also making a huge difference. American guitar companies such as Taylor, Martin, Collins, Gibson and Larivee must be quaking in their boots because the new Yamaha's are proving how over priced their guitars are.

Hello, Im currently thinking on buying one of this two guitars, im a begginer. I can get the LL6 ARE for 527€ and the FG830 for 348€, the LL6 comes with hard bag included, ARE treatment, Elixir strings and Passive System + SRT Piezo Pickup wich the FG830 hasn`t, what is your opinion? you think the 179€ justifies the LL6 ARE?
@Edward1312

The LL6M is the better guitar and worth spending the extra money on in my opinion. This is because it is more solidly constructed has the aged top and is more versatile when used in gigging and recording situations, as it has a passive pickup.

I have a LL16 and a FG730 as my "cheaper" guitars. The FG730 is a much better balanced guitar while the LL16 is no good as soon as you strum it. It has no compression thus horribly muddy in that application. The best Yamaha I've every played was a LS26, hands down.
