I have JME and USED to be photosensitive. I grew out of it at around 16. My childhood doctor taught me something that I hope will be useful. If you feel a photosensitive seizure coming on, cover one eye immediately with a hand. For some odd reason, you cannot have a seizure. I know some of you might be skeptical but this helped me so much as a child.

I was 16 years old when I was diagnosed with Juvenial Myoclonic epilepsy. Now I'm 25 years old and still taking medication for it. I mostly had seizures when I was asleep. Though only two times I had a seizure when I was awake, at home. This was very educational, I didn't know this before.

@@ei4831 ask your doctor to check your drug (valrpoic acid) levels in your blood... there are times when it drops due to changes in your weight, especially when you start taking the treatment when you are very young and then grow up (therefore you gain weight) I suffer from JME and that happened to me...

Hello, it's been about 4 years since I was diagnosed with JME. My medication comes with some symptoms such as depression I cannot handle anymore. Are there better ways to prevent myoclonic seizures without taking pills every day?

I am currently 18 years old and I believe I was diagnosed with Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy when I was 15. Just now I'm beginning to worry whether this is something I will need medication for my whole life. What is there to worry about?

It is a good idea to see a Neurologist or an Epilepsy specialist for a proper diagnosis and the most appropriate treatment.

Unfortunately, while JME can be well controlled it is likely that medication will be required for life to keep seizures from recurring. Often, even those people with JME who have been well controlled for years will have their seizures return if the medication is withdrawn.
