Rubin was definitely listening with his eyes. If he had his way, he would have signed Glenn solo without any of the Samhain members.

Epic victory. I was so glad to be at the MSG show.

They did open for them, but they just left the tour as it wasn't working out the way they'd envisioned. As far as the Damned go, I don't think they've ever shown any true animosity towards the Misfits, or really even cared about them beyond them being another punk outfit. I'm sure they were happy to play MSG.

@21:00 There is also a character called "Devil lady" (that I think was a spin-off of "Devil Man") that, imo, I think may have been the inspiration for the succubus on the cover of "Unholy Passion".

Another great interview, Jeff. On the topic of Halloween, they were definitely calling Michael the "shape" right from the beginning. I spoke to Eerie a little through email as I'm trying to get his book, but they're awaiting a reprint. He spoke about the Beatles a little, as I asked if he'd ever been to Liverpool, my home city. Lovely guy.

Found his book at a store in Argentina in 2010. I didn't know about it at the time and just paid whatever the price was (it was expensive). A fantastique book! Saw the guys play in 1995 and tried to follow Eerie Von and John Christ since the departure. Looking forward for the new documentary! Thanks for this interview.

I think I mentioned this on another of your videos but I'm very certain Danzig got the Samhain name from Halloween 2 (not to say he might not have seen the name previously) because in a 1984 interview he named H2 as one of his favorite movies. And yes I prefer the "samhain" over "sowin".

I've definitely seen Samhain referred to as a metal band a few times, and it was always in print, not just on a blog or anything. Huge head-scratcher. I always just chalked it up to laziness on the part of the author.

Your assessment about the "blues" aspect between Damien and John Christ is interesting, and I don't know if Eerie really got what you meant. There's irony in Damien kind of having to mold himself into "the guitarist for Samhain," to leave behind more traditional blues-based rock guitar playing for what Glenn was writing in Samhain, only to be replaced by John, a totally traditional blues-based rock guitarist. And then, of course, as Damien said, it took him a good year or so to move back into more blues-based rock guitar playing which he had to shake off a bit to begin with. Yes, Glenn's songwriting was evolving on its own, but Rubin obviously had some influence. You can tell just by listening to the stuff originally meant for _Samhain IV_ like "Possession", "Twist of Cain", "When Death Had No Name", "Descent", etc.

He liked the Halloween movies. He's got a history of writing songs and being inspired by movies. It couldn't be more obvious. He's always drawn inspiration from art he liked. And i think he did it in a very unique way.jerry certainly can't do the same. Glenn is too cool for school. And it's very punk rock of danzig. He never lost that spirit.
@dgenerated2 жыл бұрын
Glenn draws inspiration from movies as well as everything he sees and experiences in life, kinda like all artists to some extent or the other.. Glenn may have taken a song title from a film ,though drawn lyrics from other/multiple sources and his lyrics were/are more cerebral while Jerry's songs are literally written about the film he took the title from and lyrically are completely straight to the point, which IMHO is why Jerry should not write lyrics and doesn't have the vocal chops to sing Glenn's songs or sing at all IMHO!.. Glenn's Drew inspiration from everything from the occult, religion, authors, poetry, films, real events, etc, etc and Jerry literally writes every song (generically) about horror movies, which Glenn never did!.. I still kinda like the 95' era and that's (probably) mostly due to nostalgia, but Nothing after "Famous Monsters" is really worth a listen in my opinion!..
@jessejorgensen39312 жыл бұрын
@@dgenerated the prestige! Exactly. I agree on early era jerry misfits too. Overall i think the jerryfits did a good job at keeping the name out there...even if it was just to make ppl realize they want the real thing.

@@jessejorgensen3931 Yes, my handle is a nod to the film and reference to my first name..I got into the band about two and a half years before "American Psycho" came out and was a rabid fan (still are) and supported the band during the "Graves-era" and saw them many times live.. People have their opinions on that era (good/bad) but they always put on a great show and were a lot of fun for a kid in his mid/late teens to see live and an option to see two original members play the classic songs I loved and newer ones I was learning to love, but once the 95' lineup split, I lost interest.. People may disagree with me, but I think Jerry touring under the name and keeping it out there all these years only strengthened the success of the "official reunion" as many fans discovered the band through the "Michael Graves and Jerry" era and Not through the original era and fans that prefer those era's to Glenn's (which I don't understand), but the name being out there the past 27 years or so as a touring entity (crazy it's been that long) only accumulated that many more fans of the band, hence that many more attending the reunion shows!..

Eerie is so funny. He busted my chops for my “fanboy” minutia questions. My theory is that Glenn probably first read the novelization of the first Halloween which has this introduction chapter which is all Celtic Samhain related. I know he read a lot of those horror movie novelizations (pushead interview).

Funny bc thinking he was always like this, I think he was actually somewhat nicer than I thought he'd be... based on little snippets of interviews etc I'd seen as a kid, and what I intuitively thought Steve in an interview had alluded to as "attitude" from a certain member in the band (not Danzig) as to one of the reasons he left Samhain. It was something along the lines of ego/ elitism from this person - who I had assumed to be Eerie. Could be wrong. I can actually see both Eerie or Pete being " I'm cooler than you" back then being in their early 20's

@@zippymufo9765 what others think about my own theories is inconsequential to me, unless of course they know a truth that I don't. Making theories about others or situations is basic human psychology. It's natural. Especially when there's actually bits and pieces of information, so therefore it's natural that I would infer what I can. Could I be wrong? Of course. Now, politely fuck off.
