The apex is not a reference point for when your braking is complete. You brake until you're happy with your speed *and direction*. When, and only when, you have direction you can go back to the throttle. The point of getting direction can be before or after the apex depending on the turn.

@edwinlomonacofoolsend20 күн бұрын
This is way harder than explained. Trail braking changes according to which car you're driving. A Porsche comes to mind. As you trail brake the car starts to over steer. And thus this becomes a difficult dance between keeping the rear of the car from sending you into a wall and slowing the car down. Some cars are better balanced. And thus make trail braking very predictable. All this is also affected by downshifting. Not to say this video isn't valid. And like he mentions the corner, the tire, the car. Etc etc. All affect trail braking. Some cars you literally can't trail brake because the rear becomes so unstable.

@edwinlomonacofoolsend ~ It's a good video for explaining what trail braking is and the fundamentals of how to manage it. Those fundamentals will vary in degree from car to car, which is the point you seem to be making, but that doesn't mean "this video isn't valid".

The biggest benefit of trailbraking is it gives more room to choose your line into and thus through and out of the corner. It's even more important with motorcycles because motorcycles slow down a lot worse per kg than a car given smaller and less contact patches.
@justamanchimp19 күн бұрын
It's important to remember what is quickest in GT7 isn't really possible irl. So you might actually be doing everything perfect but still won't beat the top players. Also, players can race in chase or bumper cam, which means they have significant vision advantage over irl or games like iRacing. The very fastest players in this game effectively exploit the nuances of the game. Not saying they don't have skill, obvs they do, but say you are fast irl and you're like 2 seconds off in the game, it's probably because you don't know the nuances of the physics and tyre models, unique GT7 specific lines, etc. All these things take such relentless practice to work out and perfect.

The example at 2:00 is pretty useless. The time and speed diferences are simply because of completely or partly missing the Apex. Of course you will be slower then, and probable even have a slower exit meaning you also lose time on the straight after the corner. That has nothing to do with Trail braking as you can also perfectly hit an apex by not doing trail braking.

Not sure about your first example. Slower car did come off the brakes early, but the 2nd stab ends up having some understeer. That's more down to the weight transfer from the initial braking and rotation being disrupted. If left alone through the apex, it'd be interesting to see how the rotation would have been. Also doesn't help he hadn't committed to turning towards that inside wall enough. Needed the on-board as well to see steering angles tbh mate. As for the side by side by side... #1 guy is way faster on entry, so you being faster on entry isn't the problem... also, #1 guy is also maximising engine braking, and commits to steering as close to the wall as possible. #1 guy's mid-speed is faster, and modulates the throttle slightly better on exit. None of that has anything to do with #1 guy trail braking better. Trail braking is generally about maintaining that longitudinal load transfer and deceleration through the cornering phase to shorten the braking and acceleration phase, whilst not affecting cornering ability.

What's funny is, in F1, if you apply this, you'll be slower. As Norris and Hamilton pointed out, you should never have the brake pedal pressed even 1% when accelerating..... you need to be hard on the brake then back on throttle. I think that's why some people in Sim racing, struggle with the differing methods for driving fast. You throw rally in too the mix, and there's a lot too remember, but once you do, it's so rewarding. I just personally think GT is a dangerous game for people wanting too start Sim racing, because it teaches you BAD HABITS. If you watch the replays of the fastest lap times set in GT, you'll see drivers cutting grass at over a ton, power sliding at over a ton.... and it's just not realistic, because if your introduction too Sim racing is GT, and you learn those bad traits, if you make the jump to ACC or iRacing, and try to drift, power slide round corners or cut grass at over a ton.... only 1 of 2 things will happen.... Poor lap time Or Backwards in too a wall. GT is fun, but it isnt a Sim.
@lammyjammer667015 күн бұрын
That ultimately depends on the car. You typically don't need to trail brake on an F1 car because they have more grip than most of the other cars you'll be driving in GT7. This is true in GT7 as well. The technique doesn't make sense for all types of vehicles in the game and I think that has to be noted. I personally like GT7 for that very reason though. You're forced to learn the vehicles limits quickly because there's such a variety of handling differences between cars. Moving to a different sim then becomes a matter of learning that game's physics since you leave this game with a better understanding of how to gauge your vehicle's limits.

I'm working to improve my trail braking with every corner I take. I turned off all assists. How can I learn a technique like trail braking through the fog of assists? I run automatic gears. The changes are consistent and by tuning the ratios to the track is reasonably efficient. Also, I don't own a clutch pedal or gear shifter, and flappy paddles piss me off. I have dedicated my left foot to braking. Muscle memory is strong with this one. I run the brake pressure low at 60%. Give me more range in pedal movement and much less prone to locking up. I use a Moza R5 Bundle. A magnificent upgrade from a G25. I'm actively tuning the force feedback settings to improve response. I'm getting better at applying the trail braking technique, and so I should be after 30 years of sim racing. Once learnt, trail braking becomes automatic. Start today. Good work, Rory.

Trail braking with a controller is very difficult because there’s no real feedback, it takes repeated attempts at the same corner to get the judgment somewhere near. Also with a wheel do you get more steering angle? I have watched some replays and they somehow seem to get more steering lock on tighter slower corners
@h3llr4iser15 күн бұрын
You get zero feedback about braking with a wheel and pedals as well, unless you have one of the hyper-expensive FFB brake pedals. Actually you get a little more feedback in the controller, 'cause the left trigger sorta pulsates like the pedal in a real car when the ABS is engaged. That said, the movements required on the controller are so minute that proper regulation is very difficult - I'd say it's the same with the steering inputs.
@Piecenotwar5 күн бұрын
@ I actually did some tests today with trail braking on the controller, it is incredibly difficult and the pressure applied visually is not linear like the controller, 80-90% on the controller is about 60-70% on the display and 30-50% pressure applied does virtually nothing. I would guess with pedals there’s a longer range of movement making modulation a bit easier🤷🏻♂️. I’d love to have a go with a proper sim setup to try it.

At this point i don’t even trust gt7 physics anymore I was doing a time trial at red bull ring not long ago… a track where trail breaking is needed very minimally And I tried different break bias, techniques, everything I could… And somehow the global leaders were able to brake abt 20ft later than me… which is quite ridiculous Especially in turn 1, we would be approaching at the same speed, have the same entry, and brake at the same moment, and I wouldn’t even stay on the track…. These claims can also be backed by the fact record times are on average 3 second faster than irl times, and if you watch the way ppl brake they very much exaggerate racing lines in this games and the abuse of the car + tire physics I just don’t understand the hype surrounding the way this game works competitively It’s a great game, but everyone things this is some pro sim and it’s eating the base of its community

@lammyjammer667020 күн бұрын
It's probably even easier on the pad because you're getting physical feedback in the form of vibration from the brakes on the trigger. The trick is to let go of the trigger enough to feel the vibration slow down. When ABS is engaged the trigger vibrates more frequently. You can't start turning while this is happening. Let go of the braking trigger enough for the vibration to slow down considerably, and only then will your front tires fully respond to your turning inputs. Gradually let go of the brake as you enter but keep some amount of brake applied until you reach the apex and then go full throttle on your exit as quickly as possible.
