The Actor who played Paul didn't like how his Character was a So Called Thug & Drug Dealer. He felt it was a very bad portrayal of Black Men. In The US on Soaps there's a Segregationalism. A Fair Skinned Black will Mix more with the White Characters while a Dark Skinned Black either plays a Cop, Prostitute, or Convict.
