No. I suspect it has real problems with the bright screen at certain apertures.

Dave, you gave yourself away before even opening the Agilent box! It says "PFANG and Probe" on it! HD Video gets you every time.

The scariest thing about a $20K box like that is that all it takes is a single transistor in some custom chip to fail and turn the box into junk. Someday they won't support it any more and you could have an expensive door stop. It makes more sense to build gadgets that can be driven by PCs, all of which can be inexpensively replaced as time goes by. Why don't you go that way, Dave, with a PC-driven power supply--no knobs, no displays? And it can vary output according to a plan and log it all.

I love the stuff CNC-design sent you. I'm a real sucker for stuff like nametags and things. Stick it on your lab door and take a picture of it! :)

Haha the prawn-probe :D All it needs is two little grounding clip "claws" and the look is complete.

Dave, why don't you take the LANC switch appart and try to reverse engineer that as well? You may find an easy to program microcontroller like a PIC10F in there, who knows.

A "flathead" screwdriver? Not you, too, Dave. There is no such thing. A flathead screw is one whose top surface is flat and designed to finish up flush with the surface of the equipment it is used on. The driving method may be Phillips, hex, spline, Torx, Scrulox and many others. You are thinking of a screw that has a straight slot in it for use with a slotted screwdriver.

Actually, Americans use both "prawn" and "shrimp," but usually they'll call the smaller kind "shrimp" and the larger kind "prawn."

Perhaps worth trying one of the other focus modes? Instant AF? It's painful on the eyes to watch sometimes :-(

With 12 digits, that gets down to a micro Hz, right? Is that even possible without some kind of atomic clock?

I never understood how something as simple as a probe can be over $1,000 it always hints to me of something along the lines of those $5,000 audio cables or HDMI cables that do literally nothing.
