Well, I have already paid for it, and I have nothing like it's capability in the lab. So I have the choice of either keeping it and using it, or selling it and try to find something of similar capability at the same price. I have also spent a lot of hours figuring out how to drive it, and it does work when you know how to drive it. Yes, it still annoys the crap out of me, but so does my Fluke 87's default AC current mode...

Great hands-on video, validating specs & testing. Thorough video with a handfull of gold nuggets of good valuable info, topnudge A joy to watch these older videos from when Dave were solid to the bone and in a class of his own.. looks like Atten Electronics gone down under, and sold their slT3 to some CN lottery chananagang

Thanks for replying, The fuse I need apparently is the 11 Amp version, the part numbers have been changed since this thing was first built, however, there is a place in Bangkok that has the part I need for about 650 Baht! Thanks for your help guys, appreciated.

Impedance mismatch reflections? I wonder if you can get rid of it by going through the voltages where the internal resistance is around 50 Ohms.

18:35 - I bought a dual 30V power supply and modified the output for 40V instead. Not sure how customisable that one is, whether you could modify the firmware or any variable pots inside it that allow for higher voltage output.

On the series mode voltage setting issue... Could that be programmed the way it is because it was meant to be used for analog circuits with dissimilar + and - voltages? e.g. say +10v, ground, -5v? Would that make any sense to use it in that manner?

Great review. Lots of good info and test checks. Thanks for the thoroughness. It appeared to me that the actual circuitry worked very well and responded nicely except for the limit crossover concerns. The biggest problem seemed to be the Functional Logic. Typical Asian mentality.

Hi there! Love the videos! I noticed you mentioned you use a Fluke 87 Multimeter - Wonder if you can help me? I have a Fluke 87 MKIII, and managed to blow the Current Fuse inside - There are separate fuses for V and A - Do you know where I can get the fuse in Asia / Australasia? And also - Do you know the part number as my old fuse has magically disappeared! Thanks a lot.

I just bought an ATTEN mulitmeter, for about 25 dollars. the quality seems quite good for the money. At work I always used a fluke, but at home electronics is just a hobby for me so I didn't want to spend a lot. I was hoping Dave would take it apart, I wanted to see the insides.

Dave has already been using ustream. twitch seems focused on gaming, but I guess either is fine with me.. the problems were twofold, however; firstly, I don't know when he'd be on, and secondly we'd spend ages trying to get the setup tuned for audio levels etc. Fun times, but not getting things like the high quality closeups here.

Reminds me of my DSO quad: looks like hardware good enough for the specs, but the software drives me up the wall so that I stopped using it. I think these manufacturers that have the hardware expertise but not so much software/UI people should just make it dead simple to exchange the software: well documented microcontroller interface to the hardware and e.g. a firmware pluggable by SD card. That way, for awesome hardware, good Open Source software will be available soon and sales skyrocket.

Dave, "OVP" has nothing to do with protectiong with failures. Like "OCP" turns off the output when current limit is reached, "OVP" simply turns out the outputs when voltage limit is reached. Very handy to charge batteries (automatically cuts power when end of charge voltage is reached)

These companies should just give you like 20k AUD for a few weeks of consulting to fix up the firmware. It's a pretty precision bit of kit especially for the money but the shitty interface totally dissuades hobbyists such as myself from buying it. Hell, someone should just fix it themselves, rebadge it and sell it for +100. Edit: hahaha dave you should have left the relays in oscillation to see time to failure!!

Thanks for the review Dave. Gah! The crappy user-interface plague is spreading like wildfire. It's as if these companies have just a single employee working on the UI, and that person's brain is wired differently to the rest of mankind. Don't they ever give these products to normal people to test before they go to market?

Spent hours and $450? Sounds like a bad deal to me. Wait until it fails on you and then you will be off the roof! I would ditch it and get a better one. I have done that with my cheap 20MHz scope which I replaced with a Rigol, which I ended up replacing with an Agilent Infiniivision 2000, there is NO comparison, I guess same would applu here, the Rigol PSU looks good though. Anyway, have phun wiht it!!
