Repair videos are my favourite. Even the failed ones, it is interesting to know how to come to the conclusion they are failures.

Dave, repair videos are the best. It doesn't matter if you fail to repair it. It's what we learn from it that counts.

I second the request for more repair videos. I don't really care so much whether you manage to fix them or not although it's nice when you do, it's the troubleshooting process that's interesting, for me much more interesting that most teardowns.

Hi Dave, Great vblog, even if a lot of the technical details go straight over my head! :-) Here's an idea for a quick repair video, which may appeal to many Aussies - diagnosing and repairing the Bosch ignition module found on Commodore V8's (the Holden 5 Litre) - these were same from VN through to Series 1 VT - they were discontinued in about 2012 apparently, and they fail, but no one seems to be forthcoming with exactly how to fix them (but they are fixable) - they are about $200 exchange for a repaired unit, and about $500+ for new. Some even boast how their repaired units are better than original, so wonder how? My son's VN unit has failed (Magic smoke came out) so happy to pay postage if you want to use it as a test case?

Dave your scope can't trigger on the composite color video signal because the 4.43 Mhz color sub carrier is going as low as the horiz sync pulses. The sub carrier can't go below zero or cut off i.e the top of the horiz sync pulse.The horizontal sync pulse should be .3 Vp-p relative to a 1 V p-p video signal

Think you need to mount your fail button a little closer.
@44R0Ndin9 жыл бұрын
Mike Mundell I think he could figure out something a little more sophisticated. Something like putting a normally-open push-button under the desk, and wiring it in parallel with the switch inside the FAIL button using some Cat5/5e/6 wire (probably have to be solid core as the other stuff is a real pain to solder). I almost did something like that once with a wireless doorbell button and a roller-lever microswitch to detect people opening the front door of a shop. The electrical side of the design was sound, but I lost interest in the project before figuring out how to mount the switch so it did what I wanted it to.

What was wrong with what the autorouter did, lol?
@44R0Ndin9 жыл бұрын
artifactingreality It would have been more reasonable for that trace to connect to the bottom of the pad, instead of going right between two pads. It's not just a matter of looks, either. That smaller gap between the trace and the other pad would make it easier to make a solder bridge short out the two pads. Maybe it's not such a big issue with thru-hole components because of the relatively large traces and distances between component pins, but surface-mount components are packed so tight and the pins are so close together that it's already challenging to avoid bridges WITHOUT a bad board design working against you.

economy shouldn't by criteria on this repairs, but amount of knowledge to improve
@44R0Ndin9 жыл бұрын
Bartosz Marciniak Most of the time I would agree with you, but sometimes it's not "economic" to repair something because you can't get parts no matter how much money you want to spend, or tracking down the specific part needed would take 6 months, or other factors that might not translate directly to "it costs too much to fix this thing". Sometimes the five dollar or five minute fix teaches you more about how something works than the 5 week or 500 dollar fix.
@xXxbastek9 жыл бұрын
44R0Ndin but this channal is not about fixing, but about learning electronics. I wound like to see 5 week 500 dollar beyond economical repair :D
