I have one of these counters - after switching it on, at first you end up in the "Betriebsspannung" (operating voltage) section and have to adjust the output voltage of the voltage "regulator" (smaller dial on the side). The pointer must point to the last line of the scale. Then you can select the range in which you want to measure. The last section where the shielding slides to the side is the gamma and beta detection mode. For the normal gamma mode, the mica window is closed/shielded. The little bag is for humidity control, silica-gel I guess.

I have one of those exact pulse generators, and an old Tek 20 Ghz sampling scope that can accurately measure the risetime, which is as claimed. I highly recommend these devices! Leo has clearly done a great job of delivering an excellent performing device at a good price.

I have one of this geiger counters. It came with 2 detectortubes with different sensibility. The end caps of the tube differs in meassure and when fitted in the meter, different scales are engaged depending on with tube. It's a realy nice piece of equipment. Super good engineered and the mechanics is just so good.

Tiny bit of advise: the Eroid capacitors like you can see in the geiger counter, are plastic-encapsulated paper capacitors. They're less shitty than an average paper cap, but still in many cases a bit leaky. The mustard colored ones are Philips brand polystyrine caps AFAIK, and almost always in perfect condition. The little mesh thing can be a desiccator. The white ceramic things with end caps are rectifiers for the high voltage, i think.

German: Aus = On, Betrieb is work, Spannung is has to do with electricity / power or voltage so operating voltage for Betriebspannung. Messung is measurement. -- There is a nut on the outside - flat-heat you can pull off... A lot of these old devices are made to be as small and compact as possible as they're probably meant to be portable. So there are a lot of little tricks to removing parts and parts end up being dual-purposed so a bolt may be hollowed and turned into a threaded holder for something else to bolt on, or what-not... Could be for a sling? It is probably designed so you can take the entire inside out in one swoop - or it is built up from the inside although they may have presoldered things to save time - etc... ie they likely would've added nuts / bolts to areas inside to remove everything at once - or most of it... Because if you have to desolder layer by layer it'd be harder to manufacture - be ok for a prototype, but not for mass production or even hundreds.. I could be wrong, but a lot of snug-fitting stuff is usually built to it can easily be removed - especially since they went through the trouble of adding that back cover - they could've made it a lot harder to get into.

That defib tester might very well be designed for verification. A sales unit wouldn't go through final certification, so it would carry a not-for-use label. We have plenty of avionics gear at work with similar labels.

Unfortunately I find myself wanting to understand something on a deeper level far beyond my understanding, which isn’t much, I’m wondering if you’d be willing to answer some questions about the best way to measure and log/visualize DC current output after a transformer (12v battery charger) A DC current clamp would cut it for a single sample, and may even cut it for measuring ~1000A from a starter if I pay for a decent unit, not sure if that would be considered inrush current or not. But if I wanted to monitor the output/behavior of a “smart charger” over time, how would I best go about this? Lastly, can you suggest a online source for electricity basics on up as I really wanted to learn more. I would like to be able to test all the clone clamp meters accuracy & such Eventually

The reason they made the battery block sliding out - most likely they offered a rechargeable battery of same form-factor. That's why 3 terminals are coming to the battery - positive, negative and a thermistor.

No, there was a DC input on the back (I had that at some time), but you could get a rechargeable pack for it (or just use normal rechargeable AA's)

Our local second hand shop here on the West coast of BC Canada has a Transonic parts box for an old scope. It looks like the box contains all the accessories and attachments for a Transonics scope including the photo taking head. Whole bunch of parts and pieces everything but the actual scope itself. It's just going to get broken and parts lost if someone doesn't buy it soon.

I wasn’t digging that much into this AED device but isn’t that a resistor network on the left of ROM chip? It looks like it “plays” 8 bit data to the resistors and outputs them into sensor ports. It would be well played, I don’t see any other reason for this kind of memory paired with ATmega8 which is incapable of external memory bus.

Mailbag Monday after the Pats game on a sunday night. Dave you should tear down a Hasbro VideoNow player. those are a series of video disc players for kids and they had cartoons on special proprietary format discs. They are similar to a CD player but instead of music it has digital video. I'm guessing they have a special chip or software on a chip that is doing the decoding on the fly. I was wondering if there was a way to convert the data on the discs to something that can be viewed on a PC like an .mp4 video file.

If I remember correctly the mp3 codec came somewhere after '96-97 on my computer (from a CD of a PC-Magazine ) and that was quite a hype! Everyone started to convert their whole CD/Tape/Vinyl collections to mp3. That was the time where Winamp was really cool. But I still owned some third-last-gen walkmen in 96-97. They were beatyful, the heyday of mechanical constructed tape devices (esp. those full metal ones). They pushed the compactness to its limits and I always prefered them as the CD-Players. It was porn to hear how the tape tray opens and closes. After that time they still produced two or three more generations of walkmens but they were all just crap as the market was dying and they pushed it a bit by making fancy walkmans in the weirdest colors/forms... the good ones already died at that time. For me personaly '98 was strange year... something like a transition to the digital age, everything went digital. That was an amazing time and a little bit sad. Remember AOL dumping the world with their Trial Internet CD's?

And actually if you happen to have a clone brand DC capable clamp meter that can measure Inrush, I’d be fascinated to know if it’s capable of of DC inrush measurement, even flukes meters that are capable of it aren’t reflected as such in the data sheets and sometimes directly suggest they aren’t, which leaves me wondering how deep that goes.
