I don't think Dave should do this on a regular basis - there are others on KZbin who do it much better - Ben Eater for instance. Don't get me wrong, what Dave does is superb - nearly 1000 videos uploaded can't be bad, but projects get started and forgotten (Lab PSU, Nixie Display) - Teardown Tuesday and Mailbag Monday are now anytime it suits! This sounds overly critical but it's not intended as such, it's just that when you spread yourself too thinly I would imagine that it would be difficult to commit to something like an eevAcademy. 'Students' could be let down by content suddenly not appearing because something in the dumpster was more important. I think Dave does what Dave does best and we expect too much from him. Nearly 1000 videos of self opinionated and informative technobabble is a great achievement.

AnalogueGround : I think you have a valid point, he does have 2 children now (at the time of writing) which weren't there at the beginning, (Gosh, remember that, the video quality.....) I have to say though, what he produces (Consider the family extras) is the best on youtube to date. He is an engineer with a wealth of knowledge and what he sends out is easier to remember because it's so visual..... text in a book is flat and not always clear. Many people do teardowns and I haven't seen them all but I don't think I need to, Dave provides excellent information and that will do.

Ahhhhh This brought back memories from Tech when I did my apprenticeship in Electronic servicing Digital Systems :) We learnt the 6502 processor and programmed on embedded systems in machine code (write the program, hand compile, type the program in with a hex keypad in a monitor shell). I would love to go back to those days.... DSE still sold electronics, EA still had Projects, Silicon Chip had great projects too. Near the end of year 4 (I did a second 3rd year subject to pick up a second area which was radio and TV servicing (got me out of work for 1 day a week) The Basic Stamp was released.... Feels like it was only yesterday ;)

Good idea with these tutorial video style. It is better than your normal whiteboard, because the viewer can always see everything and much clearer, and your voice doesn't change all the time because you are turning your head like with the whiteboard, which was a bit annoying in your videos. This video could be uploaded right to Khan Academy :-) Maybe just post it in your main channel, but with different labeling. Regarding the content of this video I didn't learn anything and I just skipped forward, but no wonder because I programmed small and big FPGAs for some years already and I do a lot of retro-computing electronics, but analog basics videos would be very useful for me. Or advanced digital stuff, like explaining meta-stability and how to avoid it etc.

Excellent! I like the format. Perhaps a separate channel to allow those of us who are serious about learning to subscribe. One suggestion, it would speed up the presentation a bit if some portions like diagrams and truth tables were done off camera like you do with the whiteboard. Very worthwhile content. Digital logic only existed as theory when I was a student. My only foray into that world in the 60's was making a crude calculator that used a dozen or so 12AX7 vacuum tubes.

I like a cleaner interface like the one you get when using a dedicated digital pad like the Wacom. It allows you to write faster (and explain what you're writing) compared to a white/black board because you don't have to make the writing so large. I would be inclined to keep it on the same channel. Your channel is already huge, so I don't see any harm in keeping it that way. I would just add a category / playlist for these things. I like the idea of using bench footage as well with these tutorials, as seeing something in action helps make ideas / concepts more concrete. You can go from the Wacom introducing the subject, to the bench showing it in action.

@26:00 It's commonplace to not write any symbol for the AND operation. (The dot is often omitted.) Therefore A and B would be written: AB. Also, it's commonplace to use an apostrophe (') to represent the NOT symbol as well. So "not A" would be written: A'.

The old white board sticky note style must be a lot of work to produce, and don't appear near as much as I would like. If these can be produced relatively quickly on the tablet, then I'm all for it.. Having a special channel, great idea...the ability to go back and scan through all the lessons, would be handy. Be good if you could re-upload the older ones in this series from the original EEVblog..so there's a full resource of learning on the one channel??. Possible choice of channel name is either EEVlearn or EEVclassroom. Only caveat I would say is, if you get Doug in for special masterclass - keep it on the whiteboard.
@daveturner53057 жыл бұрын
Dave - For this type of content I like this approach and look forward to a series which builds to include flip-flops , counters etc. Of course by then you would have to be demonstrating propagation delay amongst other things. To do so effectively one needs logic analysers/scopes etc. so the screencast could not be the sole vehicle of presentation. Please more back-to-basics and then build on it; whether you create another channel or not is almost irrelevant. Just make sure that if you employ other presenters they maintain your style of presentation - it's addictive.

Logic gate truth tables can be boring, until you find a use for them. An XOR gate is an extremely useful device for turning a single channel oscilloscope into 2 channels, for viewing the timing relationship between 2 digital signals. Either signal may end up inverted on the scope display of course, but the timing relationship between the 2 is clearly visible on screen.
