Dave, I when I used to repair displays on macbooks, one test to verify a bad module was to shine a flashlight on the dark LCD. You can see the desktop, after boot. Then you knew it was the backlight module part. Though, with this HP, you figured out it was two issues: bad bios and bad backlight transformer. Great troubleshooting and true trash reward! :)

This is a known fault with the bios. Glad you re-flashed the bios . The backlight board has a tendency to go pop so I would replace that as well😁

The little pin in the center is usually a one-wire bus for charger identification. There probably is a one-wire eeprom in the connector.

Hi Dave, This HP Devices usually sends pulses to the Power-LED to simulate a beep if it don't have any Speaker in. On the HP Website you can usually look what that means (it's going from one pulse per second up to 5 pulses per second). What's it usually does is 1 puls = not used, 2 Pulses = BIOS, 3 pulses = "Hardware" (mostly CPU or RAM), 4 pulses = Thermal Problems and 5 pulses = Systemboard (HP Speech for the Motherboard).
