Building my Vans aircraft and it has been a couple years since I used this tool. Thanks for the refresher.

We like you, we are happy to have found this video attaching the screws rivets without an after slight bend would leave a gap, your idea helped this small machine shop across the street from the Yucca Valley Airport in the California Mojave Desert solve a question we had about our own work. It the gap was going to be an issue as we are now learning to fabricate aluminum sheet as part of our duties around here.

Great idea for small aircraft. I think most of the dislikes are from people that dont understand the unique issues of riveting sheet metal, especially aluminum sheet metal.

I think I over-bent the edge using this tool (had it set too tight?). Can I adjust the tool so it's not as tight and run the edge through it again?
@mijodo20088 жыл бұрын
Excellent idea & concept. This little gem of a tool makes the difference between an amateur overlapping join and a professional join especially in thin aluminium sheet. I have used a set of wide jaw (8") friction pliers to archive a similar finish, but usually upon very close inspection (with a magnifying glass) you can see evidence of each 'bite' with the pliers. I will fabricate an identical tool, such as this edge former, next time I 'overlap & rivet'. This tool will be great for edge lapping curved sheets. Many thanks for posting & sharing your knowledge on this video. Kind regards, Michael, Australia.

@movax20h6 жыл бұрын
Is that DIY tool? Looks cool, and is ok if you do some minor work few times a year, but really if you do have some space around, bead roller machine, that can be mounted on the bench or in vice, would cost very little (100$ maybe), allow to do much more precise forming, on thicker materials, and further from the edge.

That is an awful lot of trouble to go to for just that type of bend, buy a small break machine or take it to a machine shop, they may not even charge for that.
@demiurgiac8 жыл бұрын
Taking to a shop or purchasing a break is a whole lot more trouble than using this nifty little tool. Also, 'length' is never an issue as it would be with a small break. I think it is a great idea.
@southjerseysound73408 жыл бұрын
I've got about 400 pieces that need their edge rolled on the plane I'm working on.Yes I have a break but not everything fits and to be honest I dont like how far the break bends the part.Lastly there is no way in hell I'd take every part I make to a machine shop lol...................But I actually made my own tool as it's pretty simple on a small lathe ;)
