Ben will then facilitate a discussion about the merits of some of the tips for evaluation reporting in the blog and invite participants to submit their own tips (and pet hates) in a lively, interactive discussion.
Ben Barnes is the Senior Manager, Safer People at the NSW Centre for Road Safety. He has worked in evaluation for most of his professional career, first as a private sector consultant, and then in government, both as an internal evaluator and a buyer of evaluation. He has also been an independent expert on large-scale evaluations for the Department of Communities and Justice, and for Aboriginal Affairs. So he has written or read his fair share of evaluation reports, and has some issues he wants to work through!
Francis Matthew-Simmons is an Associate Director at Urbis. He has worked in evaluation for 12 years, including stints within NSW Treasury, DCJ, Education and NSW Health. During his career he has grown to appreciate the value and impact of a well-written evaluation report. He has also developed a strong affection for plain-English writing, having occasionally succumbed to bureaucratese on previous occasions.
This event was organised by the NSW Regional Network of the AES.
