The surnames (jr, I, II, etc) mark legacy. If you're a dad who raised his children and provided for his family, then you held it down. If you've taught your children to move like you or do better than you, you've begun to create your family legacy. It's something to carry on your family's name. You don't have to be a rocket scientist or famous basketball player to create a legacy. You teach and raise your people to go out into the world and positively affect it.

He dissed lil pump, then did an interview with him. Dissed lil Yachty, but then does a record with him and interview with him, for Yachty to call him out, just for Cole to backtrack like nah I didn't mean it like that. The idea of naming people after their relatives or ancestors, comes from feudalism. At one point, that’s how people were named,as last names weren’t a thing. Once last names were implemented, those names became the family’s sir name. Eg. Ryan the 1st,2nd ,etc. became Tom Ryan or whoever Ryan for example.. The idea of passing the first name still carried on,and here we are.. Its also why there are many cleopatras, with no last name…

This track was by far the LAMEST thing J.Cole's ever done in his career, worse than the apology. So J Cole throws a punch (7 Minute Drill) then apologizes and backs out the fight. Kendrick spares Him, doesn't retaliate to Cole and proceeds to whoop on Drake. JUST for J Cole to spin the block in the aftermath on some "iF i wanted to, you know I would've won" cornball lame shit while giving more kisses & hugs to Drake. This hurts as a Cole fan. And I hope Kendrick disses Cole on the album. that Kendrick bar...."Dear God, draw the line, they tryna confuse 'em with me" was prophetic.

Yall do understand that Cole look at BOTH of these guys as bros. They are the closest rappers to him in their generation. They have essentially grown up together in the industry and reached the pinnacle of their chosen lanes. Cole has referenced BOTH of them many times in songs and interviews. If you know Cole’s music, you clearly know where he stands. He wasn’t willing to engage in a battle that wasn’t gonna be just rap. He made a good decision because this battle went way beyond rap-quickly. Cole showed love to Kendrick pre-battle and to Drake post-battle. He did not apologize to Drake-just recognized that Drake has been helpful to him in his journey. My question to DJ Hed-how long is Cole gonna be crucified for being a real man over a rapper?? IMO, we watching the party die in part because we got too many grown children with imbicilic mindsets and not enough grown men being examples. Also-I liked the respectful back and forth between the two of you. New sub here.
