I'm a new dad of a 1 month old girl, and I want to raise her with limited TV. I'm curious, when you say "No TV at all" do you mean that you don't let the child watch TV on their own and/or that you don't watch TV yourself with the child around? How would you recommend parents manage their TV time with a child around?

I think this is an important question also. I have a 4 yr old and 1 yr old, some months we never have the tv on, but recently it feels like it’s never off, because of being inside so much and the weather, Covid, etc. I try to put on mostly educational shows, and I try to watch with them so we can all talk about what we’re seeing.

Thank you for this video. I am so tired of the narrative that tv and technology makes children so smart when in reality it is the reason why we have so many children with autism and delays. Technology is cool, but in moderation and for children, I would say not at all.

I actually don't believe what these doctors have to say about screen time being bad for kids and babies. Obviously too much of anything is no good. But to suggest that screens will slow down development is insane. If a baby has a scheduled day, when to eat, sleep, tummy time, play with toys, go for walks etc why can't screen time be part of their routine? Babies are fixated with screens because of the sounds, colours and pictures much like how babies have rattles, lullaby songs and many colourful toys which all stimulate their senses. To say that babies should have zero screen time makes no logical sense. In an ever increasing technological society, screens will be the future for our young kids. Kids have a far better use and understanding of new technology compared to older generations and suppressing them (I believe) will actually set them back in our society. I remember growing up being told by my local doctor that watching too much TV will damage my eyes and I will have to use glasses. Well that was bullshit! I watched a lot of tv as a kid and my eyes are fine. Fact: screens leave zero long term damage to eyes. If I am wrong, I would gladly be open to have my mund changed. But this sounds more like an old wives tale than actual case study evidence

As much as it guilts me, I sometimes put my 6 month old in front of my laptop to watch Bob Ross or something while I go do something. He's very demanding and that makes it difficult to get ANYTHING done some days. He'll grow out of that I know, and he still gets plenty of play time with me and his toys. He's been doing this since 3 months and he's a highly Intelligent child. So personally, as long as it's not long term or even half the day, it should be fine.

Speaking from personal experience you are ABSOLUTELY WRONG. just because they can use the technology doesn’t mean it’s good for them lol. There are thousands and thousands of babies who have been propped up in front of a tv during the pandemic and it has resulted in speech delays, communication issues and social issues for so many. It literally turns children into zombies. if that’s the result you are looking for, go for it, but don’t try to make it seem like tv is healthy for them lol, it’s just not.

@@Brit943 so if you believe technology is so bad for them why do you wrap them in clothes and use bottles and formula and milk pumps for breasts and plastic toys or teething toys or dummies or play music or use siting chairs etc etc. That is all technology. 🤣😂🤣 Sure if you leave a child in front of a tv the whole day they could turn into "zombies" 😆. However, if you read my comment in its full context you would realise that i said, watch TV in moderation including other important motor and cognitive and communication activities 🤦
