Effexor Taper & Withdrawal (Three weeks back at 37.5mg)

The akathisia has gone down a lot, but I’m dealing with bad brain fog, dizziness, head pressure, balance issues, and POTS.

Thank you so much for your update 🙏. So nice with a puppy ❤. Yes... supplements make me worse too. I only take a little tiny bit sometimes to see how I react. I also have mastcell reactions and histamine reactions, so I am on a very strict diet (low histamine, gluten free and and low meat). That helps. Wish you the best 🙏.

SSRIs and SNRIs totally rewire the chemistry of the brain and the gut (the second brain). It's absolutely murderous to develop and sell such products legally when you think about it for two minutes. I hope to see the manufacturers of these medications in the deepest circles of hell. That probably goes for benzodiazepines too, but I think benzos have more short-term use, even though they're just as dangerous. The most frustrating and truly horrible thing is the medical community, people who can't even imagine the suffering (which is more or less normal) look down on or ignore those going through this hell. 💪A lot of empathy for you.. I think there are a lot of us in this situation.

Watch your supplements. I found (I'm 10+ months in) withdrawal was a time thing rather than a lack of supplement thing. They did not help. If they help you, go for it. They helped me at first but trailed off quickly resulting in actual setbacks rather than progress. Don't be afraid to discontinue something even though it comes highly recommended.

You can do this. I quit cold turkey. It was rough and I’m still not 100% and it’s been three months but it does get better and you will feel immensely better.

Went to see a psychiatrist and he denied the fact I had akathisia. I told him my symptoms and he said I had anxiety and insomnia, not akathisia after I told him I marched for up to 19 hours per day all day and night. It was agonizing. No akathisia? Come on. Doctors suck.

Hi, I am tapering as well. Biggest symtoms are anxiety and lack of wanting to do things outside the house, like joining groups or shopping etc, . I am at 40.54mg, this has taken 5yrs from 150mg, at present I can only decrease by 1 bead at a time. 6yrs ago i was on 80mg propranolol, 10mg amitripilene, 30mg mirtrazipine, and 150mg of venlafaxine. At present am on 20mg propranolol and 40.54mg venlafaxine. This is going to take a good few more yrs

Been there before, been on Effexor 150 since 1999...tried getting off multiple times. I just cant. My brain wont let me, damaged cells and infarct in my lower left brain tissue...back on 75mg and hopefully going to try again in a few years. Keep fighting!!

You can remove the beads from the capsule. Me and a friend of mine removed one every 3 days or so, you probably can go faster in the beginning, the real tough withdrawal starts around 18-12mg in my experience. Use 5htp and other supplements. Good luck.

Some supplements made me really unwell during Effexor withdrawal. 5htp made anxiety and panic worse. And a GABA supplement sent me to A&E literally felt like I was dieing. Do you get the heightened senses, eg overwhelmed by cooking smells and loud talking?

I tapered from 300 to 75mg in 2 years. I tried to drop 10% by removing beads, but could not stabalize. Went back to 75. Now been 3 weeks and starting to get windows. How do i taper from 75? We do not have compound pharmacy in SA

Take beads out if capsule, or cut pills and weigh if tablet. Best of luck!
