Unfortunately too many of us substitute muscle for technique when trying to make a forward cast. In this video we'll break down the mechanics of an efficient power stroke that delivers both distance and low fatigue.

Your use of that model is absolutely brilliant! It really conveys the principles involved. I have to say that after buying a switch rod this summer, and watching innumerable Spey casting YT videos, my single handed casting has improved thanks to your videos! The same principles apply. Thanks for taking the time to do these. It's very generous of you.

I'm learning so much from this series. Already your tips about D loop and anchor are making my time on the river more productive. Thanks!

Also, your visual models, both for the D loop/anchor and now this new one visualizing acceleration on the power stroke are brilliant. Those images become well-used tools. It's so easy to punch/launch the power stroke rather than accelerating into the stop, this image really makes it clear.

Casting proficiency,so when I get that chance.I’m not struggling with loading the rod to cast under tough conditions.an spooking every run I used to try an straighten a pour leader by trusting an it does neither straighten the leader or make a good cast. Thanks

Hello Peter. One question, as a practice thrower, I have discovered that the length of the line matters more than the weight of the line. For example, a Skagit line of 7m/30gr is significantly easier to throw than a line of 14-15m with the same weight. What do you think of this?

There are a number of variables that impact ease of casting and line length is one of them. If we're in the Goldilocks zone for our rod and skill level, then yes, that line would be easier. Video 18 in this series will get into the issue in more depth.
