First, I want to say how grateful I am to the student, you doing great my friend, best of luck you are in good hands 👏👏👏 Watch all your last clips, so much helpful and not so much info to be processed Tim 🤔 But this move in to the student it’s going to be a game changer and also to create some hate and love between the DIY self teaching Spey casters and the traditional learning curve from learning the fly casting rules from the theory to later be able to understand the faults, we must know the principles to spot the good and the wrong doing. One way or the other, you are in the right path In your channel Tim👍👍👍 Thank you very much for the time and all the effort you put in to it and we usually don’t see behind the camera. Keep up the good work, and I can’t wait to see if you can get together Trump and Biden doing some Spey casting 😂👍 Best Mag

Thanks for the video. My buddy has this rod in a 6 weight and when I try to go to it from my Sage it feels like a pool noodle. I think it's the softest spey rod I've ever cast. If it's working for Trent here that's great, but I find it to be a ton of work to cast.

I know the feeling. Every time I switch rods It takes time to get in the groove. I had a Beulah Platinum #8 that was a good Skagit rod butt I struggled doing touch and go casting. But now, after a good ten years of casting, I have less trouble with different rods and even prefer rods that are less stiff. Pretty much love them all though!

I get a lot out of your clips as there are no casting instructors or other Spey casters near me. Keep it up 👍

Dear LSJ, Nice job with the single spey with a scandi head. You emphasize accelerating thru the forward stroke. In contrast, in the case of Skagit heads and sustained anchor casts Ed Ward recommends a constant application of force thru the sweep and forward stroke. Do you agree? Or do you feel that the forward stroke in skagit casting likewise needs a bit of an acceleration? GJO

Good question. For me, when I do a high slow sweep, I sweep so slow that I absolutely have to accelerate the forward cast. Also, even with Eds continuous motion cast there is always an acceleration in the forward stroke but the idea is that after the sweep, there is no pause as we wait for the D loop to form (or maybe a teeny weenie pause in my case) but the forward cast has to happen before the tension in the D loop we created in the sweep is lost.

I’m going to the Clearwater around October 23rd. Mainly a family camping trip, but I do plan on swinging some flies. I’m trying to see if the season is open from Lowell to Clear Creek. Probably won’t be in there yet, but that’s close to where we will be camping. Do you have any idea? Thanks Tim! Another great video. Helping me a ton.
