You know how many times i saw people dunk the holders in water and heat it up until the head melted. Ive personally see them destroy 3 heads the entire cooling system and lines. You give someone good hardware and they treat it like trash.

@@froschreiniger2639 Easier than you might think, when I was in Co-op during high-school, a guy put one in, got distracted talking to someone all while the heat was on, that thing was red hot when he had that "oh fk!" moment.

I'm pretty sure a heat treated alloy bit being fit into precisely mated piece has a bit less wiggle room then balancing your tire.

If you have to use a torch don’t even bother using these holders they are far too expensive to be doing that, might as well use hydraulic holders
@KnoxGTX
@KnoxGTX Жыл бұрын
I did. It works… but certainly easy to over heat and doesn’t take long for run out to occur… Also, worth noting is the shank tolerances. That plays a big part in being successful with it…
@adammiller4879
@adammiller4879 Жыл бұрын
@@KnoxGTX yup. They have endmills specific for shrink holders tolerances. Typical normal endmills are minus .0001 .0002 from nominal can cause endmills to come loose, but you can also buy below nominal holders for regular endmills, but if you spend the money on those holders might as well get the haimer heat shrinker lol

@Tunkkis
@Tunkkis Жыл бұрын
I'm guessing he's heating the tool holder so it expands, then dropping in the tool, and when the tool holder cools down it shrinks onto the tool and holds it tight.

@Tunkkis that makes alot of sense lol idk how that didnt click
@braydons5623
@braydons5623 Жыл бұрын
it heats the holder up, you put the tool in and then throw the cooler on it, it creates a interference hold on the tool, it will not come out unless you heat the holder again.

@jlr0884
@jlr0884 Жыл бұрын
@LordOfChaos.x you sure? Look at initial cost and life time of the holders. You also have to think about shop size what they're goal is and what industries they're trying to get into. In my shop heat shrink vs hydraulic I'd take hydraulic any day. Hydraulic paid for itself with a quicker turn around compared to heat shrink. Some people think you absolutely have to hand this stuff to be successful but that's not the case always
@braydons5623

Im in the biggest area for tooling in north America and I can honestly say I've never seen a hydraulic holder, these heat shrinks are the standard.
@phuckyocouch9098

@braydons5623 it's called a dual restraining method technically. It uses mechanical and hydraulic force to get a tighter grip than you would from a er collet. You've probably seen them you just don't know they're hydraulic.

Wow so many completely ignorant first off it only gets changed when dull or breaks each machining center can have between 20 and 100 standardized tooling setups. And you cant beat the accuracy of these tool holders. And way less down time if your good with your time management as a machinist if you think its abig waste of time your the one wasting it.

@@fishsticks88 well it’s much better than what our shop use, we just use a blowtorch and that’ll take you a good 10 mins to do 1 tool! And the cooling process is much more rogue and causes micro-fractures so this is much better even though much more costly
