Great video! My only suggestion would be to take a pool noodle cut to short lengths and slit up one side. This will slide up and down to whatever position you need, and replace the furniture pads. You can put them on before placing the ladder. Keep up the good work!

Thank you so much, I went from two people and a whole lot of straining to just under 45 min to change out an ac. Dang made life so much easier. I got my winch from harbor freight $71.99 with a wireless remote and the only thing I still need to work on is the power supply. I have 2 ac in one week..

I do almost the same except I use a harbor freight Winch that uses a wireless remote and I ziptie some 1" pvc pipe up the sides to help it down without catching the ladder

I thought I was being creative strapping to my RV hauler bed and man handling (pulling) the new unit up a ladder. That was fantastic! The comments are also great. We are full timers and I used to work on cars/trucks for a living. While I have a basic understanding of what to in your videos and they really are informative! I kinda liked your idea using the ladder and a winch. I have a set up similar to this, but I built a 24' square carriage for it that rides up and down the ladder. The winch pulls up the carriage on a 16' ladder with a remote key fob. I built it for lifting roof trusses and shingles, but you can use it for just about anything, including an elevator.

I used an extension ladder from the back of my truck to the top of the 5th wheel trailer. I pulled it up with a rope. I was just playing with the idea, and planed on having a buddy the next day help. Once I got it up half way, it was do or die, it was not going to slide back down without toppling over. I’m a small guy 150lb, losing my footing, sliding closer to the edge as I pull it up. Happy to say I got it up on the roof before the new ac and myself went off the edge. Great video!

Great idea! I did something very similar, I took a few sections of 2” square tubing that I had on hand (like what trailer hitches are made of) and made 3 sections 4’ long that all pin together and then I welded a flat steel plate to the bottom that sticks out far enough that you can park the motorhome or travel trailer on the plate to keep it from falling over, on the top section I welded a round plate with a hole in the middle and several holes around the edge of the plate. Then the top portion which again is made out of 2” square tubing 3’ tall with a 3’ boom (so shaped like an L) and has a round plate welded to the base identical to the plate on the top of the mast with a rod that is in the center of the plate and inserts into the hole on the mast and allows the top section to spin 360 degrees, the winch is mounted to the top portion and is powered like yours. I lay it on the ground and assemble it the stand it up and have a helper move the rv until the rear tires are parked on the plate! Works perfect! There’s pins that keep it all together but you get the point and it can spin so the ac or whatever can be set straight down on the roof or you can shorten it to lift heavy stuff in and out of trucks and such

My design did go through quite a few mental versions. One was similar to what you're explaining. In the end I wanted everything to fit in a suitcase when I was done with it. And that's why I came up with the Little Giant and the ATV winch.

Hay man I just actually discovered a ladder crane which I thought was ur video and I was doing more research on it. But I like ur setup but look into a ladder crane u can make which makes it even easier. Ull find videos on it but u use the other side of the ladder it's genius so when you put the ladder back down it puts the unit down on roof as well. Check it out to see what iam talking about all u need to do is make an arm and u could still use ur winch iam sure

I wouldn't be under that 100lb dead weight. Better just to hoist it up with the wench (that hooks on to the top rung of ladder) while standing on the roof. PVC pipes along the ladder rails is a good idea, as someone suggested. I would also secure with a backup rope/progress capture pulley. Parts needed: Ladder, wench (with ladder hooks), straps, PVC pipes, zip ties, rope/progress capture pulley.

You need to make a 3 sided sled with some FRP on the bottom to slide over your rungs with rings on both sides to run your straps through, hook on top and your ready to go! Kudos on this idea, it must be the fresh air from Canada to help you think of all the little inventions you’ve come up with ,aye 😂👍

If you are going to follow it up you may as well just a-frame the ladder and leave it in the box then push it up rung by rung - tilt it onto the roof with a blanket at the top. Heck you could still winch it up that way and not lose 20 minutes strapping all over the place. And if you really need a high a-frame add a plywood plank to slide it over to the roof.

I think the ladder and winch is a great idea. i don't understand why an 8 gauge wire from the tow vehicle will charge a fifth wheel battery faster than the 16 ga in the plug

To be under the load you must be a designated part of the load movement. Have a hard hat on and gloves with steel toe boots are optional by management requirements to be OSHA approved. Tag lines were needed. Not sure if the crane is approved for selling though. Legalities are steep when manufacturing a crane.

Your crane is really neat, but all that time setting it up kinda makes it pointless, I normally just pull the AC up by hand. ITS A PAIN, but very quick.

Ok, being totally honest, this is a nice little engineering project. But I'm hoisting an AC up to the roof for the first time in 5 years. Maybe I'll do it again in 5 more, who knows. When you broke out the power winch, I just sorta laughed and thought, well hell, I might as well just go get my forklift out of the garage. Or, I'll go ask my neighbor if I can borrow his crane. Lol you have a nice little kit, but that's a lot of setup and a lot of stuff for something that's going to take 10 minutes with 2 guys, maybe an hour with one guy on a wooden sled. Total overkill IMO for the casual RV owner. Nice toy though. That winch would end up on my bumper. :)

If that's the link to an 18 volt drill I have no use for it. As I've stated many times in my videos I use 12 volt tools when working on RVs. The benefit there is that the 12-volt battery pack can be used as a power source to test many components within an RV.
