Since I finished college 8 years ago not once have I seen an electricians knife on site, just use a Stanley you’ll be blunting the blade once a day depending on the type of work you do, also if you buy an “electricians hammer” you’re just a marketers dream

@@raychambers3646 same. But I find the claw hammer way more useful. Had my Stanley blue strike and 99e since 1997. They are the only tools I haven't lost or been stolen.

Electricians knife have their place for certain jobs. If you use it like Jack the Ripper, you're going to be sharpening that blade all the time. Use is wisely and for the right job like stripping the out sheath off of a SWA cable, I think it trumps the Stanley. As I always found this to kill blades in my trusty retractable knife. The right tool for the job is a mantra everyone should heed. I've seen lads use the back of impact drivers as hammers before now. You could tell they never used to buy their own tools 🙄

Prefer Stabila level with magnetic base ( ideal for trunking ) practically bullet proof . Good starter kit though , by the way forgot about toolbox ! Lol .
@nigelconnor24602 жыл бұрын
I use the Wiha 4mm flat screwdriver for tightening screws inside the light switch (make and screws dependent) and definatly for front face screws. BTW if you turn your pliers and side cutters the other way when stripping cable (Flat face out or away from you) it makes stripping cables so much easier. the side cutters are designed that way. I have done this for years now since I was shown in tech.

I find the 5.5 too big for the socket outlets our company use, use 4.5 for sockets, 4mm for light switches, and 3.5mm for ceiling roses & 5 amp connectors

I rarely use the combination pliers. Instead I use insulated angled long nose pliers or telephone pliers as they are often called here. They are very versatile. Also instead of the electricians knife I use either a normal knife / cutter (I know not insulated) or a wire stripper. But over all a good list of tools.

You forgot the most important tool for an apprentice .. a broom , teach them to tidy up before letting them loose on the tools... never used a knife, always used side cutters but more recently the Jokari flat cable strippers esp on downlights.. not a fan of slotted pozi's the slotted tips tend to break.. wiha and wera ... never had a prob using a PZ2 ... 5.5mm is a bit big for a lot of brands.. i tend to use a 4.5mm sockets and 3.5mm switches... electricians hammer? really? been using a good old estwing for the past 25 years.. another handy tool is the wiha pocket max but had to buy extra blades to suit my needs

I heard an apprentice give a great name to a flat blade screwdriver by accident. He called it A Neg. (You can work out why). I love it. One tool I consider essential is those combi ships, they'll cut 3.5 and 4mm screws, cut and strip cable, and have a jaw in the crutch to act as pliers. They aren't wiha though. CK.

If a spark cannot bend over the ends of a cable with a pair of snips he ain't spark! Electricians knife? I only ever use one on cable jointing. Ditch the knife, get some bent nosed thin nose pliers, saves a LOT of wrist bending. But what do i know as I've only been doing the job for 50+ years

Interesting - had a quick look - the screwdriver set looks to be PH heads not PZ. Halfords selling these for working on EVs - with many cars moving to 800V architecture is 1000V rating enough?

Can we have a video on the doubling over of the conductors please? Why exactly it’s done, how necessary is it? I’ve been taught to both do it and not do it. It does introduce an element of damage to the conductor and increase time. How much more secure is it?🤷♀️
