Thanks Joe was thinking about purchasing this 2 pole detector. You have now certified it and is on my Christmas list.

The only 2 pole voltage tester I’ve seen where the test leads unplug. Very much like a multimeter. Excellent videos thanks.

Cheers Joe good review.I am Megger biggest fan and I am forever doing reviews on my channel. But once again megger leads look really poor. Also I would love to live in the world where people think that they can put them little tips in them holders and they will be still in there when you come to use it.

For me as a voltage tester, this unit lacks the loading function to determine if there are ghost voltages present. I also prefer to see probes that have fixed GS38 insulation rather than adaptable ones that will get lost and never replaced.

Looks like a decent unit, but I'll stick with my old Fluke 7-600 for a while yet ( among many others of course )

Nice probably better than the fluke T1000 because of the replaceable leads though my fluke is many years old now and still working fine.

I didn't realise you can replace the leads on the Fluke T5 1000 mainly because it looks like you have to dismantle it to do it. They don't look replaceable from the outside. Thanks for the heads up.

@@rob19632 yeah the leads are on a plug you have to take 1 screw out from underneaththe battery try and they unplug, there about £30 for the replacement leads

You can also put crock clips on the leads on when continuity testing

So the single pole vase check is just a fancy neon screwdriver my UNI -T voltage indicator does the same , and cost £15 And before you say it testermans and pass stock the UNI -T range of testers , megger are overpriced and over rated and made in China not not Dover the have production fertility’s in Boston USA pencilfainer Germany and China . As do fluke. Great video Joe as always

It's not made by megger it's rebranded its made by Sefram instruments called the VAT 70 and has been around since 2012, bennings the EU version of Metrel have the exact same too called the CM 1-4, I've had the megger version since August this year and it's crap it's gone through 6 good quality AAA batteries in 4 months

Normally I'm happy to watch and learn from these videos, but this product is just plain wrong. Mixing a voltage indicator with way too many extra functions, and test leads which will loose GS38 status within minutes of first use. The fact the unit has so many features means the tools importance to prove a circuit is dead is devalued, the tool will get a lot of wear and tear on the leads, that's why there replaceable, and I suspect the first set replacements fitted will be of the web, not up to scratch, not the right spec. The Megger TPT420 hits the spot for me, fixed test leads, and on the limit of extra features needed, without being too useful. That way it is used for it's primary purpose only, then stored out the way.

I had a voltage tester from Megger a few years ago, stopped working after 18 months, got the fluke version, miles better, better quality and bomb proof. If someone can't get the right setting using a multi meter, I would say they need to stay away from electricity, and stick to plumbing.

You'll soon notice you've got the wrong settings when you prove it, so it's a fairly moot point.

Has more than one function, the very definition of a multimeter. A rose by any other name would still smell.
@jamesmcsorley83
@jamesmcsorley83 2 жыл бұрын
Regardless of the functions, it tests for, or detects voltage. If probes are connected to a voltage, it will indicate regardless of what mode is selected. If the batteries are removed, it functions ONLY as a voltage indicator

As a master Electrician from TX USA I think the whole use a tester rather than an actual multi-meter is ridiculous. If an electrician doesn't know how to set the meter he shouldn't be working on electrical systems that might be live.

I think they are trying avoid the term multimeter slipping in to everyday language so others don't assume a multimeter can be used for safe isolation.

It’s clearly not a multimeter not like the fluke T5 Of which you can select different functions GS 38 clearly says you’re not allowed to do that. Even though I do use the fluke T5
