Great looking tool, but only up to 2.5mm2 T&E. What can you recommend for 4.0mm2 T&E? Mainly interested in the sheath removal as stripping the cores is easier and less of a problem if it goes wrong.
@simonkeell45023 жыл бұрын
I’ve actually got a pair of these, apparently there are another brand that do up to 6mm which would be useful. Great on new cable, not so good on old colours when I’ve done some retro fitting. Always use it in lighting not on back boxes as difficult to get in far enough. Also use knipex ergo strip which is my go to. Use the Ideal for termination mostly as it’s great for measuring the correct length and with wago connectors.

Thanks for the info, I was a bit disappointed how much sheath was left in the back box on your socket test. I nearly bought a pair of these to replace my CKs (which I don't use for sockets for the same reason) thinking they'd be better for making off sockets. Doesn't look to be the case, guess I'll stick to the old side cutters and cheese wire approach for now!

If you use the tool like you have done then instead of using your hands you can use the tool to take the outer sheathing off on the cables way out if you grip it? Then go in again like you have to strip the cores. Thanks
@joannabaker59943 жыл бұрын
I've got a pair of the CK ones, only use them if I'm 2nd fixing lots of downlights as you have to enter the cable from the side which makes is awkward to get into ko boxes. However may have to save up some pennies and invest in these style cutters. Looks time effective and nice clean finish to the cable. Still waiting for someone to come up with tool that will strip LSF T&E though!!

I like the idea they can deeper into a back box than the ck t+e strippers but it looks slightly fiddler than the ck ones feeding the cable through the handle

I know it's not the same but I just got the knipex Ergostrip for flex cables for a Christmas present( hopefully come in handy for Storage heater flex cables) ,been thinking about them for awhile, anything to make life easier. I see the advantage of those "Ideal" strippers and similar doing more than one conductor at the same time for flat cable but at the time being i don't do a lot of installation work I mainly do replacement 2nd fix for housing maintenance so at the moment I'll pass.

i was late to the game with automatic stripers, i have the ck ones and they are good, its about time the regs stopped being clever and go back to the terms all electricians use, earth, live, fuse board etc etc, and now we are out of the EU back to red and black as well as red, yellow, blue. i had trouble with my strippers doing exactly the same with some twin cable, and that cable was prysmian, which was a surprise.
@efixx3 жыл бұрын
Great comment 😁
@EVENTSLTD3 жыл бұрын
I have to disagree, clarity in terminology ensures no confusion. We don't use Fuse boards anymore so why call it a fuse board? Red & Black everybody knows as DC positive & negative. Blue brown is AC, EU or not that was an excellent idea + helps the colour blind 👍
@acelectricalsecurity3 жыл бұрын
@@EVENTSLTD really?, So you think consumer unit is better, I think it's a stupid name, and would like to meet the Muppet that came up with it, , for some reason they have taken everyday terms that even the unskilled would recognise, and replaced them with terms that have no relevance, plus they can't even make their minds up, we have had live, phase and now line, what next 🤔, probably live. As for the colour coding we only changed to harmonise with the EU, had they had their way all our phase colours would have been the same colour, red yellow blue sounds a lot better than brown black and grey, I still have to think before I say it, I was never a fan of the new colours and I still aren't either. You have the people at the IET who are a bunch of idiots, their only agenda is to constantly change things in order to keep producing a book we all have to buy, and they can't even get that right, it's full of errors, most are a bunch of old farts who have had their day, but keep coming up with crazy ideas, probably because there's a brown envelope in it for them. Apologies for the rant and going off piste 😂.
@EVENTSLTD3 жыл бұрын
@@acelectricalsecurity I agree consumer unit is an odd name but I don't understand, fuse board is just inaccurate, nobody says shall we watch a DVD when they load Netflix and watch a film, when you charge an electric car you don't say I'm going to get some fuel for the car. I understand that we changed to harmonise with the EU, but the EU already had a much safer and clearer colouring system, so we didn't just do it to harmonise, we did it because it was an excellent idea which is why most of the other countries did it decades before the UK. What if your unskilled person is colour blind, red and green colours are hard to distinguish, an unskilled colourblind person could wire a plug incorrectly or feel like they're unable to undertake a basic electrical task. An unskilled person may believe red is positive and black is negative, which isn't the worst but it is simply incorrect. Maybe you've not realised the advantages these simple changes will bring to people others?

Awesome, by far the best Sparky's channel on the internet. I have a couple of pairs of these and swear by them for most flat cable except for LSF & LSOH cable where they just don't seem to last. @Richard-ll2pb3 жыл бұрын
Ideal make the original automatic wire stripper which is widely used in the aviation industry because it leaves no damage to the conductor or the insulation, the price of the tool and dies reflects this precision so it's no surprise that they have designed and manufactured this so well. When the chinese copy this, which they always do, it won't be anywhere as good as the original.
