Just got back from Pilot Ryan event in Mulberry, FL. They had a gaggle of Dracos there flying. Beautiful scale plane. Looks like the main gear is the weak point on this plane. @@BrianPhillipsRC LOL. I'm sure Grandma would approve. It's just holding the phone like a video game controller and using your two thumbs on the screen to change your zoom focus. I remember that you use a phone. And while many other also use a phone , they don't zoom at all. So, you can't see the plane and appreciate what the pilot is actually doing. Brian, other videos of yours suggest you’re partial to aerobatics and daring low passes. The Draco is a plane to push some boundaries with, to try some new tricks. Recall that it was conceived and designed as the ultimate STOL bush plane, and intended to dominate the STOL competitions. My Draco is on order and when it comes I’ll be putting down a chalk line and getting a judge to mark my takeoff and landing distance. If I had a buddy, as you do, with a Draco, that’s what we’d focus on. I noticed your last landing was WAY FAST and you used reverse. Zane’s was WAY STEEP and nose low, and he used reverse while still airborne. The Wilga, and the Draco are intended to be landed High Alpha when the shortest possible landing is desired. Sure, you can flip it to reverse when you are down to shorten the roll, but to land High Alpha, keep the power in and the nose way high! I’ve been doing in in RF 9.5 with the Draco Safe + Reverse available on the forum and it works. You can get some amazing short landings with that approach. One more thing about the sim though, its treatment of reverse prop while airborne is totally unrealistic. You an flip to reverse and hit it when about 20 inches AGL and make a good landing with no ground roll. As you know from hitting reverse while airborne, (of course you’d do that...), as soon as you do the nose pitches down sharply. Maybe Zane got fooled by using the Sim. He proved what I suspected, you can’t get away with that on the model, or a full sized aircraft. This little video was excellent and thoroughly enjoyable. Camera Crew, you shine! Excellent work behind that lens. Great job of keeping all that action in view. I love your videos for entertainment and instruction, my wife just comes for the laughs! Keep it up.

Fun flying, good camera work. The crash didn't look too bad, even the prop looked intact from this angle. Looking at the footage at slow speed, you can see that after flaring, there was a little dip down again, and combined with the rough grass, it dug in. We've all been there and done that. Hey, it wouldn't be a Draco if it didn't crash now and then.

Brian, on another note, you’ve mentioned many times in your videos about having your son fly some of these planes so I was curious what age he is? Also I wanted to ask you, when you first started flying planes did you use a simulator and if so, did you use it a lot until you felt confident, or hardly at all or none or...? Lol looking forward to your reply
@BrianPhillipsRC3 жыл бұрын
My son was about 6 when he started dabbling, but it was with a terrible option for a first plane....the Duet. He's been flying ever since, but flies a lot less frequently than me. He likes to use a simulator to help build his confidence. I don't use the simulator much, but many do. I'd prefer to use simple planes in calm weather to practice, and do it a LOT. Simulators for me are for fun, but not used like many use them. That's not to say this is normal...it is a bit unusual.

@@BrianPhillipsRC Interesting! Thank you for the reply. I’m two months into RC planes now and have yet to fly on experienced mode more than a few seconds at a time, other than on a simulator but my plan is to buy the Habu in the near future and I will use your link. I used your link a couple weeks ago to buy the OMP S720 and a week later the T720. When I tried to checkout it wouldn’t let me go to the next step. I backed out and followed the link again and it did it again. It’s hard to explain it but it felt like it wasn’t a smooth process to checkout and still be in your link? @BrianPhillipsRC3 жыл бұрын
It's because he was screwing around. this plane is great, and it will tempt you to do the same, but if you don't push the limits too quick, you'll be able to enjoy it for a long time too come, BUT as you can see from the crash, it's heavy, powerful, and arguably unforgiving when it comes to slamming into the ground too hard...everything had a limit...the limit for the Draco is about 2-3 times further past most planes, but when you get there, the threshold for damage is very immediate.
@flymachine3 жыл бұрын
@@BrianPhillipsRC that's a thorough and thoughtful response and critique of the airplane. I'll keep it in mind but I haven't crashed in years (touch wood) because I fly RC like I fly full size, preflights, pattern work, no unnecessary maneuvering etc. I guess one has to get what one wants from the hobby, for me, it's serious and cautious, for others it's replaceable fun.

My first car was a '78 Ford Faimont Futura that I paid $200 bucks for so yeah, this plane is three times that much LOL. I don't care. I still want one! :)

Just don’t do it in the air and it’s okay haha it blanks out the tail when you use it in flight

Only if you don't set the LED's control to another knob or switch - I found that interesting too ;)

Flying two similar planes, doesn’t create confusion?
@BrianPhillipsRC2 жыл бұрын
It can, but when you're flying, it's strangely easy to tell apart which plane is "yours". Gotta keep in mind, I can move it and see the feedback, but you, as a viewer can't see that "Feedback"

Not in this case. Zane and I are both fairly good pilots too, so that helps (not trying to "toot" our own horns, but we are decent pilots)

these planes are not that great. however they are cool and have some really cool features. They are a bit goofy to land mainly because they are heavy. over hyped and a little over priced but i still like it.
@zanelathrum373 жыл бұрын
If you really look into the plane and what it is and compare to other E-Flite Models, it’s the best on there lineup

Reverse on this plane and any STOL plane is ridiculous and not needed. Seems like another gimmick for people to buy this expensive plane. I understand all the hype about the super detail but you don't see most of it while flying and it's not like I'm putting it in my front house window for display. Great detail at a great cost and they're starting to find many problems with it already.
