Just bought the 3x over the weekend. Upgrading from a Roland TD17 kvx. I absolutely love the kit! The hi hat is unlike anything I've ever played and the sounds are much more natural than the Roland kit. I love Roland and have no complaints. I beat the hell out of my TD17 kvx for years without a single missed trigger. Im hoping the 3x has similar durability over time. I also mounted the module on the high Tom arm in the space under the crash and above the snare.

Could you share your experience with the Efnote so far? It's probably the one I'm getting (although still deciding between td27KV2...)
@Metaldrumma7 Жыл бұрын
So far so good! It certainly gets a lot of looks and questions when I play out! People are like whoa, what is that! My biggest gripes are that the cymbals in the mixes always seem overly loud. I found that turning them down in the mix but slightly increasing pad sensitivity gave a nice balance. So far the quality and sound are top notch (again no diss on Roland). The kit just feels innovative in so many ways. Right now I'm using stereo left right out for toms and cymbals and I use headphones out panned center for kick and snare. It all goes to a Mackie mix8 for mixing and then out to PA as stero left right. Hope this helps. Cheers

@Metaldrumma7 thank you for sharing your thoughts, I am eyeballing this kit hard. What is it like to play with heavier stuff?
@Metaldrumma7 Жыл бұрын
I'll be honest, the roland was a little better for the heavier stuff, not in terms of triggering but in terms of stock, on board sound options. As a lot of others have commented, the sounds are crisp and bright but also geared more towards rock/funk/dance/jazz. The issue is really with the snare sounds as I've found several kicks that really punch and many tom options that are lower and heavy. To get around the snare sound, I've played around with the onboard layering and have been successful in layering 2 snares tuned slightly different on top of one another. This gave the snare a much bigger and deeper sound and has worked out well so far! Honestly though the best part of this kit is the audio routing options. You have freedom to output sounds differently. Being able to separate kick and snare on a center pan from the rest of the kit is a game changer live. Good luck with your decision! @@vintageludwig

@@Tom-sd2vi But why would you want to use an e-kit in a band
@Tom-sd2vi2 жыл бұрын
@@StorckOnBass Easy of use: a bit more portable, smaller footprint, low stage volume, no tuning required, more sounds at hand, great volume and sound mixing control, no mic setup required, just a DI box with a couple of XLR cables. At most gigs in my experience, acoustics of the room and mixing/equipment limitations make a good ekit sounds much cleaner and more controlled than an acoustic kit. I gigged with my band with a self-build ekit with td-25 alongside a band with an acoustic sonor kit and all feedback I got from both the bands and the audience is that it sounded way better than the sonor. Cleaner, tighter and more controlled. Ofcourse on big stages with perfect mixing and equipment, acoustic kits will sounds better, but most drummers (me included) are not playing such gigs.
@StorckOnBass2 жыл бұрын
@@Tom-sd2vi Look, it's very simple. Mic your drumkit, buy a cheap ass mixing panel, buy some headphones and there you go. You can play with your band. Personally I hate that E-kits are used for gigs and playing with bands. Maybe that's just me, but I just think that E-kits should be and stay practice kits. Having to set up and move your entire kit is something you have to deal with being a drummer. Before you became a drummer, you knew that would be a problem, you you just have to cope with it Also, you're talking about E-kits sounding cleaner, but I totally don't agree to that. In my opinion even the best E-kits sound shit because of the fact that it doesn't have life. Every hit sounds the same, where on an acoustic kit every hit sounds different. On an acoustic kit you can make all sorts of different sounds with your drums, where on an E-kit most pads have a maximum of 3 triggers. The E-kit sounding cleaner just has to do with either the room you're playing in or the mixing. You don't have to be a drummer that plays on big stages. I've played in pubs in which the acoustic kit was perfectly mixed and sounded a thousand times better than an E-kit could have sounded there. It all comes down to mixing and the room you're in
@Tom-sd2vi2 жыл бұрын
@@StorckOnBass Dude relax. If you prefer acoustic drums that is totally fine, no need to get all worked-up about it. We were just having a nice discussion. I know how to properly mic my drums and premix them, done it a hundred times. Just from my personal experience I've come to prefer using my ekit for both practice and small gigs for the aforementioned reasons. I totally get why you prefer acoustic but don't give me that "you knew that would be a problem, you you just have to cope with it". I don't have to cope with anything that you think is a requirement for being a "real drummer". I personally think it is nice to see acoustic kits, ekits and hybrids are being used in a lot of different kinds of performances. Danny Carey's 'Pneuma' is my favorite. Variety is the spicy of life, eh.

The ATV kit + 2box module would offer more sound options because of the module, but would the pads be a significant step down from the Efnote pads? Hey Geoffrey, that's really a tough question, as these two kits are very different. In terms of triggering/playability, the Roland modules & digital pads are hard to beat honestly. On the other hand, the EFNOTE has the bigger (3 zone) crashes / the great 14" hihat / bigger bd and low tom pads, so the overall playing feel on those is very good & a little more natural than on the Roland KD-10 & PDX-100 pads. Finally it also depends on the sounds & features you prefer on a sound module, EFNOTE & Roland sound completely different and have very different features. The best would probably be to check them out side by side if you have the chance & decide for yourself which one you prefer. You can also get both kits in any modified/customized configuration (with different pad sizes/hardware etc.) from www.drum-tec.com. Outstanding playing as always Ralf! Did you study music formally or are you a self taught drummer?
@drumtecTV2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Donnie! Yes I have studied at the music college Mainz & Hamburg some years back, you can find more info on my website www.ralfschumacher.eu if you like, and there's some more drumming/music and sound demo videos on my personal YT channel also: kzbin.info Kind regards!
This kit does sound great. I have td12 for last 10+ years sounds great still but Tom samples are horrible only I’ve seen about this kit from others that make me think twice about the purchase is durability and the idea of how they would sound when mixed with other live players

The way the module is mounted above the smartphone holder is not properly constructed; it tends to cover part of the smartphone's top, the holder is too small for a pad, and the module cannot be fixed underneath the smartphone. This is just me being picky.

Hi hat seems spot on, but it's a touch machine gunny in places

Hey Scott, you are right the EFNOTE modules do not have any alternating round robin samples as far as I know. But they still sound great I think :) kind regards!

While for me this set seems to be very good, I just hate the type of rack/stands they are using
@drumtecTV2 жыл бұрын
I actually liked setting up the kit with the Lambda stands, but you might get any modified/customized kit configuration with different hardware/stands or any rack system from drum-tec too :) kind regards!
@MitchCairns2 жыл бұрын
There's a significant advantage to having the stands separate. Prevents crosstalk issues.
@66meikou2 жыл бұрын
I think the stands offer more flexibility. I hate racks unless you spend and get a proper metal one. The roland racks are pants.

I like the cymbals and the overall look of the set but that machine gun effect on such a premium kit is unacceptable. I thought round robin is a standard these days.
@drumtecTV Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately no sound module has round robin samples, except the Pearl Mimic Pro: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bH-wfqh_lNaIe5o Kind regards!

@@drumtecTV I though 2Box has round robin samples too, no? I never noticed that machine gun effect on my good old drumit5 module. Also the Prismatic Sound Modeling on Roland TD-50X kinda mimics the same method. My point is that these kits are really expensive and round robin sampling is around for a looooooong time. So if 2box did it on a sub 1000$ module why can't they? Just saying... maybe I am missing something. Thanks for your response anyway (by the way I really love my Real Feel meshes)!

The hihat and ride sound perfect, however the machine-gunning on the toms is unbearable. This is unacceptable in 2022, memory and real-time processing shouldn't be a problem for large multilayer samples!
