Krusty Kraken If you're talking about the kick shot at the 7, yes. It was an accident. He was trying to make it in the top left corner...it went an additional 2 rails and THEN off of the Q ball, then into the side. There's no way he meant to do that, especially when it was more logical and easier to just kick the Q ball one rail and make the 7 into the top left corner. What made that a difficult shot was the English he had to put on the Q ball to even get it to hit the 7 from that angle. He hit it. But, he didn't make it in the intended pocket.

The Magician! Efren "Bata" Reyes. My very first encounter with this gracious man was watching him win the 1999 World Pool Championship. I recall how during that time, and every tournament after, he kept the commentators at their toes. He schooled them whichever way they could take it by making spectacular shots that left them gasping for air. Those who went on air, and having regarded themselves as pros soon realized they were witnessing greatness before them. I always got a kick out of how he kept them guessing and how quick he shut them down every time they thought he didn't have a shot only to make a complete ass out of them magical shot after magical shot.

The shot Efrain has to make on the 3-ball (starting around 22:52) is worth watching the entire video for. From an inch off the right rail just this side of the near rail, shooting at the 3 which is at the left rail about halfway between the side pocket and the far corner, he chooses to bank the cue off the near rail, just missing the 4-ball to hit the 3-ball bouncing it off the left rail, the far rail, and the right rail into the left side pocket. 23:10 You might think this is luck, but watch before he took the shot at 23:00 . He was already measuring where the cue ball goes and the trajectory of the object ball with his stick. At first I thought this was a fluke, but after watching Efren so many times, you get an idea already when there's a big shot coming when he throws in his stick on the table and do some sort of calculations. Amazing legend!!!! And one more thing, if he really wanted to hit the rail and try to pocket that 3 ball at the corner, I don't think he would have added that much power. That power was intentional so it has enough speed to hit the object ball 3 rails and then bank it in the middle pocket and plus the control of the cue ball of where Efren wants as was shown on 23:05 , is insane!!!

Shot of the match at 23:15. Only the Magician, Eferan Reyes (and maybe a very few select others in history) could make a shot like that, on purpose, in tournament play. Awesome shot by an extremely talented player.

Yeah that was a vicious shot. One thing most people DON'T wanna do is get into a safety game with him. He wins most of the time because of his cue ball control and the fact that he is the best kicker on the planet.
@twelvecentury85975 жыл бұрын
One thing that Makes Eften Reyes the magician, if the certain ball is covered and there's no possible opening to hit that ball, most of pool player will go either use jump shot or masse, on the otherhand Efren Reyes most of times he would not do those kind of shots, even he can, he prefer and like to hit the rail 3, 4, and sometimes 5 times just to hit the certain ball, and amazingly it will go success. Efren Reyes likes dufficult shots, he does trick shots during crucial games, championship, and he succeeded.
To me, chess and pool is a lot alike. There's a lot of times one move or one hard shot, usually a bank shot, if you make it it sets up the whole game. Make the shot and then run the table.

Well the statement as it was said, and that is what I was putting my two cents in about and not at all what you said, which I will get to, was that Efren Reyes was the greatest billiard player of all time. Clearly, and irrefutably incorrect, as evidenced by historical facts. Now, to what you said..... Best tournament player? Well that's some arguable territory right there too, I guess that a concensus would have to be agreed upon as to the criteria making up of that claim, everything ranging from money won and amount of titles, numbers of countries, and then how would you rate up era as well as discipline (s) difference being weighed, who could really be the fair judge of all that? Only God himself, and that's why this argument is so pointless. It's impossible for any one person to be able to honestly say who the best was, only who they think, and for whatever reasoning there might be to back up their personal decision based on potentially biased personal opinion. I believe Walter Lindrum was the best billiard player the world has ever seen or will ever see again, and that statement is backed up by quite a staggering amount of historical facts, but I am man enough to admit that I may actually be wrong, and if there is anyone else who is remotely considerable to be claimed to be better, then I would LOVE to see the evidence to back that up.

I love the way how the commentator said that it was just lucky when Efren had that magic shot at 23:15. Then he tried to reclaim that "he (Efren) earned that luck". He simply cannot accept that Efren surprises him with that shot.

It's true though that most of the luck goes to the player that's playing the best.
@kimberlyfrost73942 жыл бұрын
And THAT is the main reasoning behind hitting shots like that as hard as possible while still maintaining where the cue ball will end up. Those shots are NEVER EVER finesse shots. Even pros know that "shit shots" aren't just given to you you have to shoot just for that eventuality that you could possibly manage to pot it.

Apparently the longest time someone has had to sit and watch their opponent in a run was two and a half weeks, this was back in the days of old billiards before the rules were changed because of Walter Lindrum. If memory serves me correctly the break was 499152, (I think it was by Willie Hoppe)and took 3 1/2 weeks to complete. The opponent gave up and walked out after a few days after the two week mark, I'm pretty sure the guy was sick of sitting there and copping witty banter along the lines of "Gee, the tables running really fast today, how are you finding the table?" As he was in anchor cannon position, and the rules were not changed into the likes of what we have today, you could make an endless amount of cannons in a row. This was the first time that the international rules of billiards was amended because of a player. Walter Lindrum went on to have the rules changed solely because of him numerous times in his era. So, if anyone thinks that poor fellow here has suffered unduly at the hands of Efren, spare a thought for that poor bastard who copped the real motherload of non participation all those years ago. And think of how hard it will be to beat Efren's tournament run record with today's rules of breaking from the box as well as getting several balls in and out of baulk. I think we can All thank Efren for that. 🤡

I can remember a few professional pool player stories back in the early 1970's how their success came about and what they did to become good at their own levels to win each pool game. Their success came from winning most of their games on their own pool tables. They blame themselves when they lost and it was always on the opponents pool tables and not their own. One story I wanted to relate to a professional player. He had just lost on a hard pool table that he rarely played on surface wise. The balls would hit fast across that slick surface because the marble made the balls move soo fast when they'd hit each other. Most pool players win on their own tables but when they play on fast slick tables they lose because they are not yuse to the very slick marble tables that they hardly ever played on. That professional players all 3 losses in his career came on that Marble slick surface.
