Great side by side comparison.I have a relatively small setup, so the 6000xp worked for me. The biggest thing was the ability to scale it up to 96 kW (16 units). I don’t see myself doing that, but nice to have that capability.

Thanks for watching and sharing your experience with the 6000XP! It’s definitely a solid choice for smaller setups, and having that scalability up to 96 kW is impressive, even if most of us don't need that much power. It's great knowing there's room to grow if ever needed! Let me know if there are any specific features you'd like to see in future comparisons. Keep shining, stay charged!

The biggest thing for me is that the 12000XP allows 35A per solar input. 17A on the 6000XP just wasn't enough for my setup.

The issue is with the old panels 400w/300w panels with new panels 580w you can add 7-8 panels in series for each mppt without the need of combiner or parallel. i have the 6000xp eu variant disassembled.

Not sure why but at 8:19 you said 4x 6000xp's in parallel as if it was some sort of limit. Both the 6000xp and 12000xp are able to provide 96kw of power if the system is configured properly
@SolarHomesteadLife
@SolarHomesteadLife 2 ай бұрын
@hacked2123 Great catch! You’re absolutely right-the EG4 6000XP can support up to 16 units in parallel, which allows for a total output of 96kW if configured properly. I mentioned 4 units as an example setup, but there’s definitely a lot of flexibility to scale up for higher power demands. Thanks for pointing it out!

Do I need at least 2 EG4 Powerwall batteries to operate the 12000XP Inverter, or can I start with just one of the EG4 Powerwall’s & scale up at my convenience & budget?
@SolarHomesteadLife
@SolarHomesteadLife 2 ай бұрын
Hi Fred, great question! For the EG4 12000XP inverter, it’s recommended to have at least 400 amp-hours of battery capacity to ensure stable and efficient operation, which generally means starting with two EG4 Powerwalls. My understanding is that each Powerwall is 48V, 280Ah, and 14.3 kWh (LiFePO4), which is almost the equivalent of three 100Ah server rack batteries at 48V. This setup will provide enough power to handle larger loads and help protect the longevity of both the inverter and batteries. Starting with a single Powerwall might work for light usage, but it's best to meet the 400 Ah recommendation if possible. I’ll also reach out to Signature Solar on Monday to confirm and will update you if there’s any additional information. Hope that helps!

According to EG4 they say 2 power wall minimum
@weoutwest
@weoutwest 2 ай бұрын
I recently had the same question and this is what Signature Solar replied... "Hello, yes so the reason why Eg4 wants to see 400a of battery with the inverter is due having more safe usage in the batteries then what the inverter can pull in AC power, if that makes any sense. The inverter is able to pull 12000w to loads and surge sometimes as well if need be. One of the 280ah batteries would be able to discharge safely about 11kw worth of power without faulting out and trying to protect itself. That means if you were ever trying to max the inverter out in loads, you could be faulting out one battery." So what i came away with, is you can but if you are planning on using it's full potential, get two batteries. That's what I ended up doing.

Why do none of the reviewers of these discuss Code Compliance? For Code Compliance you need to have: 1. Arc-fault detection and shutdown; 2. Ground-fault detection and shutdown; 3. Rapid Shutdown (when a button is pressed on the outside of your house the full unit is shutdown with the batteries and solar panels.). The 6000XP does NOT include any of these and it would likely take a $1000 more to add these on. I think the 18000XP does include these. When the 12000XP was first announced 6+ months ago the specifications said that it would include these features but I don't know if the actual shipped unit does incorporate these features. These are critical if you want to be Code Compliant.
@SolarHomesteadLife
@SolarHomesteadLife Ай бұрын
Great point, @KentBrase! Code compliance is definitely a critical consideration, especially for those in areas where local codes enforce requirements like arc-fault and ground-fault detection, rapid shutdown, and more. For our homestead, we’re in an area that doesn’t have these specific constraints, so our focus tends to be on practical off-grid functionality rather than strict code compliance. However, you’re absolutely right-these features are vital for grid-tied systems or anyone needing to meet NEC (National Electrical Code) standards. Regarding the EG4 lineup: The 6000XP doesn’t include these features, as you mentioned, but it’s designed for users in areas or applications where code compliance isn’t required. The newer 12000XP does incorporate updated features, though I’d recommend verifying the final specs with EG4 directly to confirm how it aligns with code requirements. Also, Signature Solar has been incredibly willing and helpful with any technical questions, including code compliance concerns. Their team is ready to assist and provide clarity on what you’d need to meet specific requirements. I highly encourage reaching out to them-they’re fantastic at walking you through these details. Your comment is a great reminder for anyone planning a system-always check local regulations and plan accordingly. Thanks for bringing this up!

Hey so I live in a fairly large 4 bedroom home. Normal appliances such as laundry, fridge, etc. I'm leaning towards 6000XP, but would you have any recommendations? Don't think we'd peak over 6000 most of the time.
@SolarHomesteadLife
@SolarHomesteadLife 2 ай бұрын
Hey @AyushmaanGanotra! The 6000XP is a great option, especially if you’re usually staying below 6000W. To make sure it’ll cover your needs, I’d recommend doing a quick energy study on your appliances, including things like air conditioners, water heaters, and any other high-draw items. This way, you’ll get a clearer picture of your actual energy usage and any peak demands. If your needs are close to that 6000W threshold regularly, it might be worth considering the 12000XP for extra capacity.

I have two of the 6500 xp's that have to run together. Is this 12XP going to give me more amperage? Looks like it does. I can't run my air compressor without it shutting down my system.
@SolarHomesteadLife
@SolarHomesteadLife 2 ай бұрын
Great question! The 12000XP does indeed have double the amperage of the 6000XP, providing around 100 amps at 240V, which might be just what you need to run that air compressor without tripping your system. We’re excited to be receiving a 12000XP soon and will be testing it on the channel to show its performance firsthand. Out of curiosity, what size is your battery bank? It’s always interesting to see how different setups handle higher loads! Keep shining, stay charged!

While the 12000XP puts out twice the AC power, it allows THREE TIMES the PV input. Also, while the 12000XP puts out 12,000 watts AC, it can put out 12,000 watts DC to the batteries. AT THE SAME TIME! 24,000 USEABLE watts. That is HUGE. I really wish they would use these features in a hybrid unit.
@SolarHomesteadLife
@SolarHomesteadLife 2 ай бұрын
@wdwtx2.0 You’re spot on! The 12000XP is indeed designed to function as a hybrid unit, allowing it to handle triple the PV input and provide that simultaneous 12,000 watts AC output along with 12,000 watts DC to the batteries. It’s incredible how much usable power it offers for larger setups at a very affordable price. This functionality really sets it apart, especially for high-demand off-grid systems. Thanks for highlighting it!

why dont you just add another 6000 xp to your system?
@SolarHomesteadLife
@SolarHomesteadLife 2 ай бұрын
That’s a great question! We actually considered adding another 6000XP at first. But when the 12000XP was announced and released, it offered several advantages that made it the better choice for us. It’s an all-in-one solution with double the power output, which means less wiring, a cleaner setup, and increased solar PV input capacity. All of that adds up to more efficiency and simplicity in our system. We’re looking forward to testing it out and sharing how it performs on the channel soon. Thanks for asking, and stay tuned to see it in action! Keep shining, stay charged!

Using a chargeverter, or even a few on a load panel, is the best way. It turns the generator into another dc supply and makes everything run better.
@SolarHomesteadLife
@SolarHomesteadLife 2 ай бұрын
@WattsMiner Thanks for sharing! Just curious-when you mention a load panel, are you thinking of a DC load panel specifically for appliances that run directly off DC? I know some folks use DC panels to bypass the inverter for things like LED lighting, DC-powered fans, and even battery charging systems. Definitely an interesting setup approach! Let me know if I’m on the right track here.
