thank you Egils as always for your lessons. We have just started slow foxtrot lessons today and I wonder how I can make a step as big as the demonstrator lady does. Can you give me some advice?
@EgilsSmagris3 жыл бұрын
1) bend your knees enugh (on straight knees big step isn't possible) 2) in backward step stretch your leg and ankle (toe) before you move your body 3) as exercise do central position of step staticly (if you loose balance, use arm to wall support), so you can feel how big your step can be.

Hello, Egils! Feather step ( and Three step ) have one of its step Slow an two others Quick. So first step has time twice as much as each of two others, is it? As I look on couple moving in video I see length of that step not twice as much as each of two others. And in some moments it seems for me first and second steps almost equals in time and length. It is difficult for me to understand and do it right (our teachers says we do wrong both timing and length). Can you do some advance? Also I saw you video where you compare rumba and slowfox timing and it was interesting to realise similarities between such different dances. Thank you for you videos and for improvements in time (compare your old videos with new ones I see you make it more informative and useful)

Thanks for your question. Foxtrot timing is not easy to achieve. I suggest that you count in numbers 1234. Or even 12 3& 4&. First step you dance 12 (on 1 - feet apart, on 2 - pass feet), second step 3& (3 - feet apart, & feet passing), third step 4& (4 - feet apart, & - feet passing). There is smooth acceleration on the second step (count 3) continuation on the third step and deceleration on the first step. So length of the steps look almost the same.

@@EgilsSmagrisDoes acceleration/deceleration affects upper part of the body or it happens only in legs movement? "123&4& + apart/passing" - it is looks like method of dealing with big problem by splitting it onto many smaller ones! :-)
@EgilsSmagris11 күн бұрын
@@lisenkoevg Acceleration and deceleration primary changes speed of the body. It changes also length of steps, so that they are approximately same length. More precise count should produce more precise foot timing, but as I mentioned it's not easy to achieve in combination with correct body speed.

@@EgilsSmagris Thank you! Timing in foxtrot seems like something magical! While in Slow waltz timing is intuitive and one can say about himself if he in time or not, while in Slowfox it is counter intuitive and one need outside authoritive observer to discover if his timing is right or wrong.

It might help to think that figure starts with 2nd step (acceletation on count 3) and ends with 1st step of next figure (gradual deceleration on count 12). If compared with waltz acceleration is different regarding rise and lowering. In waltz acceleration is on downswing, in slow foxtrot acceleration is on upswing.

Hello Egils, In the dance school we learned to start the slow fox with the feather step. what is the preparation step intended for and is it better to start with the preparation step?
@EgilsSmagris3 жыл бұрын
Hello Celal, thanks for question. I suggest first learn Feather Step and Three Steps and then learn how to start with preparation step. It's better way to start, because it prepares movement for your Feather Step, also it's better to start with balance on Right Foot (Man) and Left Foot (Lady).

What is the timing for the preparation step?
@EgilsSmagris10 ай бұрын
@bodon2306 timing is SS. On first slow collect free leg, on second slow Left Foot forward.
