This is a fair review. This is my second season with the Ego snowblower and I'm very happy with it. It has more power than you would expect (electric motors have high torque) and the elimination of gas, oil, and hard starting are a major plus. Obviously in major snow areas. or very large properties a commercial gas blower would be appropriate, but for many homeowners, this will be all they need. If you believe that battery power will never be able to compete with gas, you should test drive a Tesla.

As an update, I purchased and cleared 10 to 12 inch of accumulated snow with a bit of back and forth no problem! Love it!

Great video! I just bought one and am anxious to try it out. I had a gasoline snow blower and every year I had to worry about gas left in the tank...or the condition of the spark plugs....the oil levels..on..and..on...and...on. And nothing WORSE than trying to start it on a frozen morning and have it just crank away without turning over.

Very nice detailed review. I’ve only had mine for a few weeks and haven’t had a large snow to test it out in yet. The only issue I had with it was the scraper bar tended to catch on the uneven spots in my driveway and I didn’t have that trouble with my single stage Toro.

Great Video on the Ego Snow Blower I have the Ego Trimmer, Blower, hedge trimmer and just picked up the snow blower kit with the two batteries from Home Depot for half price 325$ sweet deal I may go back and grab the lawn mower which is also on clearance.

I was wondering about the snowblower from yesterday's video. I'm glad you like it because I'm looking at one too. For my outdoor equipment I use either Ego or Greenworks 80v tools. My Greenworks mower cuts through thick zoysia like a hot knife through butter, but man are those 80v batteries heavy. That's where the Ego shines.

So out of the box the lever doesn't move the shoot. The lever is stuck. Is there a video of how to fix this problem? I have been rotating it manually.

Just bought mine in Calgary. It's still a good deal, considering the Batteries are worth $300 each and the Quick charger $250... HD also threw in a EGO 530 leaf blower (Tool Only) worth $198... and got another 10% off for using my HD Credit card... Now let's hope it's as good as the reviews. In Calgary, I am not worried with the amount of snow we get... last winter was bad, yes. LOL

Great review!!! I have not had the Toro 60V bog down on me yet, no matter how hard I pushed into 15 inch snow. I heard it was more powerful then the ego and it seems to be. Only issue the the toro is they if you hit a solid object with the metal auger, the blades can bend and will need to be straightened out. Other then that, it’s a beast.

I am considering an Ego vs a new two stage snowjoe. I live in Minneapolis. I am considering the snowjoe being the wheels are driven. part of the driveway is sloped so that's why I am considering the two stage snowjoe. Thank you for your time! Your thoughts please?

EGO needs to design skid plates for the leading edges of the augur housing. The cutting bar is too far back to deal with uneven surfaces in concrete and for sure in paver or gravel situations, The two stage machine has them, why not the 21” model,.

just need to say i am so grateful you do these reviews. i bought the cordless hitachi nailer off of your review with your team... you truly are great sir... one random question. why have they not made a cordless roof nailer. i do my work on my houses and built one with my dad but dont do it for a living and just dont know why there is mot a roof nailer cordless. it should be doable.

How well does it handle the snow at end of driveway after snowplow has come by. That is the back breaker especially when wet. I would like to know how it handle that.

No single stage ( gas, electric, and battery powered) snow blowers are going to work on snow banks create by city snowplow. The plastic or rubber augers can't chew on the hard packed mixture of wet snow and ice.

only 40 volt machine...I have electric version of snow joe and it does well but cord is a pain and I think it is in need of a new belt or other part as it bogs down easily in heavier snow...EGO is a little pricey but if it works as well as their weed trimmer, it is worth the price

I took out one of the batteries and put it in my Ego leaf blower and used it to remove the snow in the chute and on the rest of the blower. It worked pretty well.

The huge issue most people are unaware of is the following. Compare a single stage gas Blower against the cordless machine, regardless of make. The single stage gas Blower has the ability to propel itself forward. The paddles assist with forward movement. The cordless does not have this ability. Thus which owner will have more of a work out? I know people that own the cordless, and they kick themselves for not buying the gas machine!

Sadly the minor workout required using these types saves many doctor bills due to laziness induced obesity from lack of said workout. This isn't designed for the elderly like those dumb snow brooms everyone thinks are. Young folk are the intended audience for this and this works just as good as any single stage gas thrower I have used in the past.

See there's a lot of "Tim the Tool man Taylor's" hanging out in the comments section here. Need big gas motors Arr Arr...uuuuuhhh? Morons really. This things works like a champ in the conditions it was designed for and runs right along side any of the Single stage gas throwers I have used or seen. Typical city or Suburban residences are no issue for this baby....now extra large properties can be bothersome with battery life true....however you also run out of gas often with gas types so I don't understand all the complaining. Foot or more of packed snow and you'll work for it with this item, but it WILL do it. If you are the type that likes to wait until all the snow stops then going out to clear it, thinking somehow it saves time, well you have more Intelligence/competence issues than a battery powered thrower can help you with.

Um, when you run out of gas, you refill it and get going again. Batteries, youll have to stop for an hour OR buy extra batteries.

Time will tell. At $700 it had better last 4 years on the low end. I can see getting a battery powered machine if you are not the kind of person who is able/wants to drain out all the fuel each spring, fog the cylinder, and change the oil each year. I don't see a snow thrower lasting much more than a decade unless all that annual maintenance is done. I have a Honda snow thrower from the 80's that still runs. I don't use it much because some of the parts are no longer available if something breaks. I bought another Honda snow thrower last year. It doesn't seem to be made as well as the old one. Nothing new. BTW this machine is a snow THROWER. Snow blowers have a second mechanism to remove the snow from the machine after it has been picked up. If the auger both picks up the snow and removes it, it is a snow thrower.

I use mine in 1 foot of snow all the time. Its not perfect in deep snow, you just have to go slower and sometimes pull back, give her a big push into the super deep snow. Overall love it, i'm never going back to gas and oil.

My house sits on a hill so I drive up a steep hill to park behind my house and have a 4 car parking area. The batteries wouldn't last long enough for me and my parking area is stone this machine doesn't do stone. The machine is 700 dollars, wow. I paid 799 last week for my Cub Cadet 526 SWE, the machine is so much bigger, stronger and better. Who in their right mind would pay that much for an over priced power wheel snowblower.

Ummm maybe you just hit upon the popular notion of buying the right tool for the right job. No need to bash a perfectly good tool if it's used in the right conditions. This is a perfect typical city or suburban home thrower and it's works wonders in this category. Your home like a friend of mines with a similar stupid hilltop design requires a good 2 stage thrower like a troy built that runs around 400$....awesome thrower for the price. Good thing I scouted my house correctly for the weather conditions I live in so any thrower single or otherwise will work for me....just a small uphill grade...very very slight.

Considering i live in Point Pleasant and a beach town my house is protected from flooding because of what you call a stupid hilltop design. So actually my friend, I have a specific reason for scouting out my house and snow isn't my main concern. If you know anything about evaluation charts you would know that is how FEMA draws its flooding maps. My stupid hilltop designed house also means I don't need flood insurance which my boss that lives in the same town does. My recommendation to you is before you go insult anyone or speaking ill of anything they have learn all the facts first or will insult them.

From what I saw in the review, it's a single stage machine which really puts in the category of an electric broom. Not self propelled and not much real power. At the asking price, I think a real snowblower might be a better deal.

pgfollett A real snowblower will take care of everything that you will encounter- many people are dealing with walkway only, and have a plow company do the driveway, this machine is perfect no gas, fumes, maintenance or oil. There is a lot to be said for that

I do 3 suburban driveways with mine and its fast in 6 to 8 inches of powder. The big "real snow blowers" work great on the big storms or an area that just gets a bunch of snow, but for a place like SE Michigan that really only gets a few storms a year it works great. I only bring out the big 2 stage Toro on the 12" plus snow storms with drifts for the most part now.

Annnnd you'll probably go over $700 in a gas blower in maintenance cost, oil changes filling with gas and such, in 5 years. But if you get this, you'll probably spend less than $50 in electricity in charging the batteries.

Really? I bought my current snow blower in the late 70s and I still use it. I have put nothing but oil and gas in it since I've had it - oh, and I changed the spark plug once. Admittedly, I have used a corded snow blower as well, but I broke the auger after two years and can't find a replacement so I'm back to the gas powered one. At least I won't have to spend $200 for a new battery in five years.
