A little rough video but the audio remains pretty steady. Palo Alto, 1984

A friend used to manage the "V" in Palo Alto in the early "80's". His family owned the place. Many great shows there including Bobby McFerrin just before he became famous with "Don't Worry". Great old days 🙂

So much fun to play on fretless. Thanks for posting this. They played at the Flood Zone in Richmond in the 1980's and Manring played 3 basses on one song.

Live clips of the Montreux band are very rare, and this song, with its steady hypnotic 7/4 sway, has always been a personal favorite. Besides owning and playing for decades every group and sub-combo release on CD [Let Them Say, Chiaroscuro, Tideline, etc], I've been fortunate enough to see Mr. Anger perform with Mr. Marshall and Mr. Manring and also the Turtle Island String Quartet, so I speak with experience when I say that his complete mastery of his instrument is evident every time he performs. Whether chopping down in the back, throwing some pizzicato on the barbie, or pulling a lilting melody out of his little friend, his contribution to a piece of music is the benchmark of contemporary violin. Not to slight the other musicians! It's just that Anger has been probably the single most influential and inspirational figure in my 35-year career as a multi-instrumentalist and composer.

Nice. I agree. He's amazing. AND he's a nice guy. There's a lot of him playing with Marshall, Manring and Hedges ("The Mikes) earlier in the channel.

Thanks for this. I never got to see them perform live before. I guess they shortened the name to Montreux for the Windham Hill days?

I was very fortunate to see the Montreux band at their very inception IN Montreux Switzerland at the jazz festival in the summer of 1984.🙂
