This was an excellent presentation on Egypt and how their leaders navigated their way over the decades of ever more challenging relations with Israel. This documentary wasn't in itself overly revealing in its exposure of Egypt's rulers and Middle East events as Arab-Israeli issues have long been at the heart of this thoroughly publicized and conflicting geopolitical world for over 75 years now. Nevertheless this production and the narrator's delivery simply tell a tale of a modern nation that has fallen under the dominating influence of a more powerful neighbor. Egypt will continue to exist as it has for thousands of years. It's status of being an epic civilization of antiquity will remain inviolate. There is nothing wrong with a people resting on The Laurels of their ancient forebearers.

16:03 What political freedom? Sounds like they swapped one monarch for another. The question should be whether Nasser's government was better than the puppet king he replaced. We are often compelled to accept the West's criteria when assessing our own governments. When it suits the west, monarchs are good and natural even though they are dictatorships.

Most of what you said is right, but Egypt wasn’t poor at the time of King Farouk, on the contrary it is a very wealthy country, it was growing socially & economically. Nasser overspent failed wars and attempts to spread revolutions around. Nasser wasn’t the leader of the movement, it was Mohamed Naguib whom Nasser put under home arrest for the rest of his life. This movement got the British completely out (by that time it wasn’t a full occupation anyways).

As good as your videos are, please learn how to pronounce dates. Hearing that something happened on "one February" sounds like you don't know the exact date or perhaps don't even care. Essentially, it sounds the same as "some February."

He used those Islamist fanatics at his convenience. He laid the foundation for the rehabilitation of political Islam. He was the first of the leaders of the different regimes that emerged from the pan-Arabist revolutions that began to make educational, social and political concessions to the Islamists and to incorporate religious elements and formulas into his speeches, in a path that years later would be continued by Mubarak himself and also followed by Saddam, Gaddafi, Ben Ali and everyone else.
