I love this plant they are very hardy they also bunch under ground so you have to thin them out or else they will over crowded. They can get out of control after a few years and are extremely prolific but that's okay just more to plant else were. They seem like they would do well in the wild like as a survival plant in a pinch and since they are a bulb they would survive drought they are a great plant.

You can eat these as green scallions 5 weeks before. The small bulbs you plant in the spring. Leave some plants so they go to seed . Plant in the fall .in the Midwest we call them winter onions.
@thepurpledoll3 жыл бұрын
Didn't know much about varieties of onions so I found this informative! I've only been growing spring onions at home. But if ever I get to have a garden of my own in the future, I would love to grow these Egyptian walking onions too! I'm curious tho how this tastes compared to regular onions 🥰

I have something that looked like your walking onions but have slender round shoots that holds the heads but have flat but slightly concave leaves. I had planted what was labeled garlic chives , I had planted walking onions but didn't do well so I use the soil in other places. I am wondering if these walking onions were just dormant until conditions were right. If I hold the heads I. A cool dark closet, will they grow if I plant in the fall. I am in Az desert thth 115 degrees expect this week

I love your video! This spring was my first time planting walking onions. I only gave about 5 bulbs, one gave me a top set with five little bulbs and I have planted those. I live in Vancouver Washington, real close to Portland Oregon. Can I leave them in the ground all winter without losing them?
@DM-kt8rd11 ай бұрын
I have grown them for several years. The answer is Yes!, leave them be for the winter and they will be the first thing up in the Spring. Mine are in a raised bed, and I get temperatures down to -35C. They are very resilient!
