In the fairytale kingdom of Babenhausen, a young, self-appointed expert on love named Cazotte is hired by the scheming Grand Duchess to help her secure an heir. While searching for a suitable future Princess, Cazotte teaches the timid and introverted Crown Prince the art of seduction and lovemaking. But their plan soon backfires when an heir is conceived out of wedlock and the royal family has to seek refuge or risk losing the kingdom to greedy relatives. The Danish Netflix film Ehrengard: The Art of Seduction is now streaming on Netflix, but is it worth watching? Thanks for checking out my Ehrengard: The Art of Seduction (2023) Netflix Movie Review!

An American, criticising a movie based on a classic Danish novel, with a Danish cast, directed by one of the most revered directors in Denmark, with costumes designed by the Danish queen, for not adhering to modern day progressive American standards. All right, so brave man. Bet you’re a real blast to be around.

So an American critic is unable to understand a European intellectual game, since he has completely misrepresented the meaning of the film, based on Karen Blixen's novel, right? Do you even know who Karen Blixen was? 🤦🏼‍♀️

Please read Karen Blixen's story and watch the movie again, see if you understand it. Cazotte, due to his outdated ways, is the big loser. He loses the bet with the duchess, doesn't even get close to Ehrengard (who is a strong woman who chooses her destiny) and ends up with a cane (do you want more?). Another thing, the costumes and scenery (magnificent) are by Queen Margaret of Denmark, the film is directed by Bille August (winner 1 Oscar, 1 golden Globe and 2 times the Cannes festival) and the actors are great, especially, Cazotte, (Mikkel Boe Folsgaard, winner of the Berlin Silver Bear for best actor in A Royal Affair). For that reason alone, it's worth seeing. Read the story, which is only 100 pages long and is also very funny.

But the movie should work without the audience having read the book, shouldn‘t it?

There are many people without sense of humor, but I rarely see someone talking so openly about it. I guess 'The Great Dictator' by Charlie Chaplin is in your opinion glorifying Holocaust then. Amazing.

The costumes and set designs are done by Queen Margrethe II of Denmark.

I adored this. It was light, witty and funny. Great acting with a twist ending you may or may not have seen coming...the final word will surprise and delight you. As for misogyny - it's a HISTORICAL piece. I'm a feminist, and I approve this film. I didn't find it gross. It's just the way it was for the times. Also, the women were smart and strong, so that kind of evened it out. You won't be disappointed.

2:17 he says the story is glorifying it, but I don't think it does that at all. Him being somewhat of a creep is definitely part of the story and as much part of the original novel as it is of the film. I loved the film and the book. For its time, 1953, it was a very modern and progressive take on this type of story.

Sounds a lot like "Dangerous Liaisons," but lighter and funnier. I plan to read the novel and watch the film. - kaf

absolutely delightful, don't judge what you can't understand. This is a world gone by, captured gorgeously with the help of Queen Margret. ❤❤❤

The self serving protagonist, Cazotte, can be both a little despicable and helpful depending on when interests align. I think it brings facets to the personality. Comparing it to the political correctness of a lot of other costume dramas from Hollywood with utterly good or bad characters, I like the ambiguity. Other than the end, which i think is witty, but not supported with enough foundation for it to work, I think the film is entertaining and has good acting. I would give it 7 out of 10 if you like the genre.

Him saying it makes him feel yucky for the main character being rapey is woke gone wild than I think you’ve largely lost the plot or are just being ideologically hard headed.
@radical_feminist
@radical_feminist Жыл бұрын
@@drewmcgill5290 In fact, he didn't understand anything. It is Ehrengard who handles the plot and the "pompous charlatan" Cazotte, who is portrayed this way both in Karen Blixen's story and in the film.

I'm pretty progressive but I get upset when us modern people try to impose our ideals of progress on other countries or socities set in the past. The artist's behavior is problematic, yes, but it's part of the story and he suffers for it in the end.

This was entertaining and very downplayed if this was the story of Casanova. I googled what he caught with his exploits and this is it: this is why he had gonorrhea four times, cancroids for five times, syphilis and genital herpes [26,28]. Damn, he didn't only do court ladies but prostitutes. The story I found funny and it disappointed me in how they showed us his so called exploits. Not that great in my opinion. Was worth my time watching it. But if you want to see a real movie on seduction watch The Age of Innocence with a great cast and real drama and excitement. Thanks.

Cazotte ruined everything. The movie is titled Ehrengard but it focuses on him. I was also left feeling icky after. The end was solved cheaply.
@Tinnevelly
@Tinnevelly Жыл бұрын
Not cheaply tho, everything came to full circle. He deserved it. He sees Ehrengard as an object and slave to his art and desires, evident on how he described her to the duchess.
