I wanted to play this so bad when it was new. My buddy rented it, we played for about half an hour and returned it under the blockbuster policy that if you don't like it you can return it immediately. I think we got an Armored Core game instead and had a blast with that.

I had that game as a kid, lowkey the dungeon mode was ahead of its time. It plays a lot like a roguelike (a genre that really wasnt around in the 90s). I would totally watch a completionist of it. If i remember right you only have 1 life (with each of the characters) then its game over. Theres also this weird wine stock market minigame lol. Great video like always!

this was such a fun watch I played this game as a kid and had a blast with it despite how wonky the fighting mechanics were and the dungeon crawler yeah spent way too much time with it I'm pretty sure I got 100 floors down before I was like "this is never going to end is it?" and just put it down that being said it was super fun to see the boys mess around with it

You aint wrong! But the ones who bought it then realized it had this badass roguelike RPG with randomly generated dungeons, many years before the genre even really existed. The dungeon mode was some of the most fun you could have in PS1 era, and it wasn't even the main game. Tobal No. 2 was another with a neat RPG built-in too.

This game was my teens. The fighting game was pretty fun, and my friend and I would tag out on the Quest mode on sleepovers. I would love to see this game get revived or turned into a franchise.

@@wonderwondertwins It has a definite end. You have two characters you can play with, who each have different play styles. You want to trade out both characters to level them up, optimize their gear, and what not in case one dies in the dungeon and needs to be retrieved (for respawning). If you only play with one character and they get trapped in a room that's spawning enemies too quickly, or they die to a too tough monster, your second character has no chance of retrieving their items and magic, and has to go through from level one.

This game reminds me of playing a soul calibur game on the Wii which had a sorta similar dungeon rpg mode. I think I played maybe 20 minutes before the disc froze & I couldn't play it anymore 😅😔

I think Yuffie's in the game too, gotta unlock her from the beach levels. I remember the boss fight is during the credits, and the credits can end the fight prematurely.

She's unlocked after beating arcade with cloud. Vincent gets unlocked after beating it with Tifa and Zack gets unlocked after clearing it with all ff7 characters. I believe Cloud gets his infantryman outfit after you clear it with Yuffie. A lot of cool stuff in this game.
