Looking back from Oct 2023 many of his words is prescient to say the least - violence and oppression is not a long term solution. Making people desperate, putting them in subhuman conditions is very dangerous. How refreshing to have a politician care about others (even neighbors) rather than himself. In his words, it's not a favor - its for Israel to help itself, the best way to guarantee its own well-being.

The region might have looked far more peaceful had Olmert managed a few more months in office.
@kamalohim
@kamalohim Жыл бұрын
It would not. Sentimentally I am entirely with Mr. Olmert but he is wrong to believe that ending the occupation will bring peace. The majority of the Palestinian people do not want it. They would use the absence of Israeli forces to arm and then attack. That is all we have seen from Gaza where the people hold exactly the same sentiment as those in the West Bank. Wishing for a path forward does not create that path.
@Botie2
@Botie2 Жыл бұрын
@@kamalohim Your making assumptions. When Oslo was signed, I remember all Palestinians were jubilent and full of hope.
@kamalohim
@kamalohim Жыл бұрын
@@Botie2 If all Palestinians were jubilant, why did they refuse Peace and their own state? Both were on offer and they declined. Regardless of what was possible then, it is not possible now, and that is what we are dealing with.
@Botie2
@Botie2 Жыл бұрын
@kamalohim The fact that the West Bank and Gaza were going to come under Palestinian control by 1999 under Oslo and not only that it came and went without happening, but between 94 and 99, Settlers in the West Bank increased from 90K to 350,000, Rabin was assassinated and Likud won the election promising there would not be a Palestinian state, Netanyahu refused to meet forncontinued talks, made the Palestinians believe Israel was not a good faith actor.
@kamalohim
@kamalohim Жыл бұрын
@@Botie2 That narrative only holds up under the assumption that the Palestinians were coming in good faith. Rabin put what is essentially Israel's best possible offer on the table, it was not good enough and the Palestinians walked away. The ven diagrams never met. Olmert wasn't going to change that.

Congratulations to Naftali Bennett on his tenure as Prime Minister. He's a great man. Netanyahu was inciting and divisive, creating a great rift in the nation. Blessed are we who got rid of Bibi Netanyahu and would have called anyone who did not vote for him a leftist. Netanyahu was a liar and a deceiver against whom three indictments were filed. Netanyahu all he was was a bad and dodgy furniture dealer. Netanyahu was responsible for the incitement that led to the assassination of former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. Bibi's hands are covered in the blood of Yitzhak Rabin. Netanyahu was divisive and inciting and remained so. Blessed are we who got rid of him. Good luck to Naftali Bennett
