I could handle the chorus demos just fine, but if you are gonna start diving into reverb pedals, my bank account will be drained.

so true. my reverb addiction has me at seven boxes and counting. hell there's probably more but i'm not ready to face the reality of that higher number yet.

I have had this pedal for 5 years now and I love it. It's so diverse, and I really have not dove into the 2nd mode to unleash all that's there. The Spring is very very good and the main reason I bought it. Great demo, keep up the awesome work !

Just got my hands on one of these last night and plan to dig in later this evening. Thank you sir. You are a saint for spending (I assume A LOT) of time learning how this pedal works and then putting this video together. Cheers!

love your demos my good man! I was never "a reverb guy". bought and sold a few but this one went right on my board and opened me up to all sorts of textures I had previously relied on delay to do (admittedly imitating a reverb's job). yes it's a swiss army knife but all incredibly usable, inspiring, classic & (typical of EHX) demented sounds in there. A friend of mine borrowed this in exchange for his SLO. As much as the SLO washed over me like a warm blanket & inspired me, I missed the Ocean's 11. When we traded back I said "ya know, I never really tried the Ocean's 11 mod reverb out. There's hidden contrability under the hooded I also never messed with. If I can't get it to convincingly imitate the SLO, I'm selling it & getting the SLO." Ocean's 11 is still on my board ;)

Good stuff as always! The oceans 12 is a fabulous pedal. In addition to being stereo, it also has two independent reverb engines that you can use separately or combined with series/parallel options. Each engine gets its own bank of presets too. It’s almost too much 😂
@StompboxBreakdown6 ай бұрын
Sounds like I need to investigate.
@Digitalmindseye6 ай бұрын
I think you deserve one😉 A couple other features I love are the “tide” control that changes how swirly and spacey things are in stereo and the lo-fi knob. It’s by far the “deepest” pedal I own and I really haven’t spent the kind of time required with it to really dig into it and explore.

loving this! i've lived with my Oceans12 for a number of years as a dedicated end-of-chain 'verb, and it works perfectly. my only issue has nothing to do with the sound one can build with the box; it's only that i'm old and need to have a pdf of the manual up on my monitor to see what setting is activated on the dang thing because the setting typeface is tiny. super-tiny. here's where i shake my fist at a cloud and wonder what time Matlock comes on. Gratitude for the awesome exploration!

People aren't kidding when they say it's worth it for the drippy spring alone. It's officially an emulation of a 60s Fender spring tank unit. But then you get all these other modes too. I wasn't even aware of how good the trem mode sounds until your demo (great job btw). I ended up getting an Oceans 12 a few weeks ago for stereo use with a synth. Oh, and the second spring mode is the Holy Grail ;) crazy value there.
@StompboxBreakdown6 ай бұрын
Thanks! Yeah, the trem one really blew me away. Being able to save the settings makes it wildly more practical than a pedal with 80 million "possibilities", Just gotta make sure not to bump a knob while playing it. The spring reverb, I felt like it was a little trebley, but rolling the Tone knob back helped with that.

I LOVE my Oceans 11. The spring reverb alone is worth the price of the pedal to me, it's one of the best sounding spring settings I've heard. It sounds better than an old Japanese amp I have with a Belden brick. Pairing it with a Canyon delay pedal increases the fun exponentially. There are just so many options on both, and every one is a great sound, even if a few are very niche sounds.
@StompboxBreakdown4 ай бұрын
Oh totally. It delivers way more than I ever expected.

@@StompboxBreakdown oh yeah, they both do 😁 If you haven't run an Oceans and a Canyon together you really should. I put the Canyon first, with a long tripped out delay, then set the Oceans to one of the more drawn out and effeced sounds..... notes ring for days!

So much reverb for the money! However the Oceans 12 seems like a no-brainer upgrade. I too used to rely on my amp's spring reverb until I recently bought Walrus Audio's Slotva for $125. It does way more than spring reverb... but now I want it in stereo! So, if and when I get a stereo reverb it's between Walrus' Sloer and EHX's Oceans 12. The EHX is quite a bit more affordable. Anyhow, thanks for the great review and widening the world of reverb(s)!

I've seen the Slovta on so many boards, I really want to give it a try one of these days. Reverbs are fun to play with AND fun to make videos for. I agree, though, the features of the Ocean's 12 look tempting.

Because this pedal is kind of expensive and doesn't have stereo out, I was interested in your thoughts on weather it's reverb's (logarithms I guess) are "better" than say the Boss RV-6 or the Zoom MS-70CDR for the more standard stuff.
@charlesvannice82794 ай бұрын
O11 is probably dollar for dollar the best reverb out there. The spring alone is almost worth the cost.

Definitely a feature-packed pedal. I think I might give the edge to the MXR M300 reverb, but it's nearly double the price.

I'll admit, my eyes started glossing over after about the fifth variation demoed. Not because Mr. S. Breakdown is boring, but because of a tyranny of choices. I will admit some of the weirder modes were interesting. As for your next video on ampless set ups, I want to know if your set up can be run straight into an amp. I know the whole point is that it doesn't need an amp, but *could you*? I've run into a situation where my "ampless rig" had to be run into an amp because there is no direct box/front of house solution. So that's the basis for my question.
@StompboxBreakdown6 ай бұрын
Totally hear you on the option paralysis thing. It's stopped me from putting a couple of great pedals on my board, just because I know I'll split my attention thinking "ooh, maybe a modulated delay for this section here...". As for the amped ampless setup, you *could* set the amp pretty flat and just treat it like an FRFR speaker, if I'm reading what you're saying correctly. The challenge would be to keep any of that amp's character out of the mix, which could be difficult depending on the amp.

@@StompboxBreakdown Nailed it. So, I'll come clean. I've got a Boss IR-2 and pedal board set up. I set the IR-2 to the Fender Twin setting and I run that into a Deluxe reverb RI with the bass OFF. Sounds killer.
