Every publication I've read reserves C1 for access to live parts, so is a shock risk, but that is not the issue re that cooker, given the cover didn't appear to be damaged, so can be no higher than a C2, by their standards. Whether you should be coding it at all is a grey area, given it's probably more to do with In-Service Inspection & Testing, rather than an EICR, given it's arguably not part of the fixed wiring - yes, you can code it if desired but whether you should be is debatable.

I knew I left dinner in the oven to long! So good at cooking I can even burn the appliances 😂

Found that nearly exclusively on that manufactures cookers. It's a bad design. When we fitted them you would tighten the cables, wiggle them and they would fall out. Despite the cord grip pulling out the appliance to clean and push it back repeatedly the terminals would pull out. If you over tighten they bend, under tighten they fall out. To be honest you have less issues over tightening them, if under tightend they usually weld themselves in with a high impedance connecting and continue to melt the connector. The appliance is usually repairable with that part readily available. I would C2 but disconnect it and make safe regardless.

Interesting. In petrochemicals, we used to be involved in root cause analysis. Marcus gave his expert opinion and it got me thinking - if this actually caused a fire , how does it get investigated to determine the fault, post fire? Who or what team of people, are actually telling the insurance/owner/equipment manufacturer/media and fire brigade, what exactly went wrong? There must be a learning video in there perhaps. Luckily Ive never experienced a home fire situation but I know folks who have and It cant be a very nice process..............

I'm assuming the internal wiring behind is also compromised and therefore cannot be repaired easily. I would be asking should a domestic oven be in a commercial environment, admittedly it has lasted a long time, but the manufacturers warranty often will not cover domestic appliances being used in a commercial premises

Nice. As someone who only installs gas/electric cooking I see this regularly and it's always on the line conductor. Never seen the neutral burn out. My employer has dropped the coding from our procedure but c2 all day.

Why has the coding been dropped?

Its burnt out because the resistance at that connection is high probably bigger cable will rectify.. had this problem on storage heater which had plug connection, removed plug and direct wired via fused unit sorted the problem.

I test up to the outlet to were the cooker is connected. when I PAT test, then I would check the terminal block on the cooker, and also note on the PAT sheet there is thermal damage and the wrong cable is being used and fault needs to be fixed without delay.

C2 with written information to the client and end user about a potentially dangerous situation. Leave it turned off.

It’s a C1 clearly a danger to use. But good find as most electricians wouldn’t remove a free standing cooker just in case you damaged the flooring. We would either disconnect it or charge to replace the connection unit.

I ignore the exposed live parts as the only C1 description and C1 something if it’s an immediate or imminent danger to life. Sue me, I’ll stand in front of the 3 chairs and curly wigs and state my case without any fear.

C1 Themal damage to cable in connector block Possible damage on the terminal Discolouration around the outside of connector block possible thermal Looks like physical damage to cable about 200mm down from connector block Possibly the wrong cable type used (T&E) need to check MI as it may need H07 flex...Caveat Oven MI vs Cooker plate MI Possibly appliance faulty and may be dangerous to use Is that CPC sleaved? Other things to consider Carbon monoxide alarm present in room and In Date IF there is a Gas burning appliance Heat detector in room and In Date Is that rotary switch isolator directly underneath a deep fat fryer????
