It's tremendous to know that (Hassan) you are reading books 📚 you are better than the majority of the population here in Pakistan 🇵🇰 who didn't have any connection with books. Continue with your struggle and read as much as you can no matter if you don't have degrees if you have a connection with books and movies you can learn a lot without any degrees. Dr. Sb channel is like a blessing of God for us. We have Hamid Mir and other journalists The majority of our public listens and likes them. But there is no comparison of Dr. Moeed with the rest of the famous journalists. If we compare Exposure wise Dr sb is outstanding among all others. The sad thing is, after the regime change operation the situation of Pakistan is the worst place for free thinkers and for elite and intellectual class. Our (illegitimate respectables) institutes blacked mailed tortured and murdered the public, journalists and political persons.

Animal Farm by George Orwell is another excellent read. Short and very relevant, anyone, anywhere can easily relate to it. Revolution is prone to betrayal. Although the main theme is communism around WW2, it's frightening to see how people in our part of the world find themselves in a similar situation.

It is owing to my firm belief that our degradation previously, currently and essentially futuristically, is due to decline in book reading thus diminished knowledge. Love from Canada! I (husband) have read 3 books from your list and it was ages ago when my interest was in that area. For the last 20 years, my interest has been in non-fiction adventure books and I find it difficult to return to my previous interest(s). So good to know a graduate of Columbia's SIPA. When I was doing my cross-functional individual major, I took courses at Columbia's Engineering, Business School, Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, and explored the possibility of taking a course at SIPA (International Program Management) on the other side of Amsterdam Avenue. However, my program advisor advised against taking that particular course. Sorry, I went down the memory lane! Please continue doing the great job on GVS Channel.

Two years back when you did a very rare vlog on Sushant Singh Rajput, you suggested a book by Victor Frankle . I was doing my own research on the poor actor's eerie suicide/murder and I also listened to your vlog. I got an audio book of The Meaning of Life. And for the next six plus month , I would listen to the book at bed time. It gave me so much hope. Every reader would feel, I'm sure, it's written for him. Thank you Dr Saab.

My first reaction, FINALLY! Thank you for doing this. It is not just not books, it more about understanding Dr Moeed thought process and to develop ours. I would suggest not to over do it, meaning may be doing one or 2 videos in a month. Besides, you mentioned about advantages of using kindle over buying hard copy. I like the feel of an actual book and still debating, hope your video will help me decide.

And I was a young confused medical graduate not knowing what to do with my life; my mother & Khala used to tell me that for good marriages men should be at least 10 years older than their wives; over years - through several experiences & reading - I have also learnt that women need emotionally stable men to bear their own energy and turbulence! So she was definitely lucky! We again met after a few years! And we still had that chemistry!

I recently read Overthrow by Stephen Kinzer and next on my list are Covert Regime Change (O'Rourke) and No exit from Pakistan (Markey). I used to think why a developing country like ours would be of any interest to the US, but these books have been a big eye opener to understand how critical our political situation is right now :/ Definitely going to order your first two suggestions. The only one I have read from your list is 1984 but that too from a perspective of being a classic. Sad to see how it is more relevant than ever to the situation in our own country.

Dr Sahab, I was inspired by you in General Mysharraf's era of governing Pakistan most admirably. I was quite disappointed by his Presidency though, where he got to compromise politically on so many issues. These compromises were not matched with his tall and brave personality neither his successful governing philosophy. Finally he paid the price and lost a quite winning battle against 60 years old corrupt, illiterate, dishonest and the most cruel Mafias of all kinds in this great country. I am saying it great because after all this injustice and corruption this country still exist on the world's map. I am following you for a few months and try to watch all your videos which are very intellectuals and based on in depth analysis and wisdom. You and Dr. Shahid Masood are different in the lot and quite an interesting that both of you have medicine as origin. By listening and watching both of you in particular along with a few other honest and brave generalists, and a few in our institutions, are still sincere with this country and they want to see Pakistan as a strong, respectful and a speedily rising developed nation in the world not only politically and economically but also morally having strong and real positive Islamic values in all walks of life. Please keep up your good work for the youth to drag and convert them into a wise, literate, positive, honest, hard working and a truthful society based on the principle rules of Islam which are Justice, Peace, Welfare and achieving excellence in education.

Thank you, Dr. Sahib. I somehow missed this wonderful vlog. I tend to get most of my books through the library but bought Dr. Henry Kessinger’s book from this list, and I absolutely loved it. One of the books I'm reading right now is "Profiles in Courage," written by John F. Kennedy. This is the tale of ten senators who, in the face of several obstacles and demands from their constituents, stayed steadfast in their commitment to serving the nation. This should, in my opinion, be on the reading lists for Pakistani public officeholders.

What worked for my children best was: “Look what I read today “, then I used to go one narrating for a while and one of my children snatched the book away from me and started reading. Any books thrust on them ended up making a huge pile in my garage. Thanks. I have started reading again. I finished “The Animal Farm”. Now reading “1984”. Next, The Brave New World”.

Enjoyed your book recommendations. I have found "reading" books on audible very enjoyable. This way one can listen to books while driving, jogging or doing any chores. I Enjoyed the following books 1. Fall of the giants by Ken Follet. It's a historical fiction about world War 1. 2. Atomic Habits by James Clear. This book gives you tools how to cultivate good habits and get rid of bad habits. 3.Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari. It's a brief history of human kind. 4. Steve Jobs by Walter Isaccson. Biography of Apple founder and CEO Steve Jobs 5. Rise and fall of third Reich by William Shirer. It's about Hitler and World War II 6 Lawrence in Arabia by Scott Anderson. This book actually is about a British spy Colonel T E Lawrence in WW II but gives a beautiful prospective of how Middle East was carved out by Britain and France after fall of Ottoman Empire . Beautiful vlog. Really liked it. I have just started reading Walter Isaacson's biography of Henry Kissinger. Want to know what drove the man. Will take your suggestion and read Diplomacy and On China after that. With respect to the other six books recommended by you, I have read two - A tale of two cities and Nineteen eighty four. I also have been using Kindle for many years now. But I use Audible too. My general method is to use Kindle for non-fiction and Audible for fiction.

Dr. after watching this video it went nostalgic when my Parsi uncle used to talk about history and based on his immense reading of English literature. Nonetheless, apart from the nonsensical satire going in Pakistan however you atleast change the subject to a more constructive and informative one. Please continue such videos as Unfortunately a blessed and most revered Pakistan is screwed by the so called saviours and it’s happening since ages. Cheers 🍻

In fact barring the first two by Dr Henry Kissinger I've read the remaining six you have mentioned. Anne Karenina used to be the #3 best seller after the revealed ones --the Bible and the Koran. Now the title has dropped out from the first ten. JK Rowling is at #3 and JRR Tolkien at #4 Among st the Classics ; MM " GWTW" is at #9. Reading is a very useful exercise. Keeps one alert and in circulation. Winston Churchill the NL in English Literature and PM of GB, was a master of word play. For that is what keeps you riveted. Leo Tolstoy and Fydor Dostoevsky were skillful craftsmen. Do keep up the great work whatever the platform. GVS if you like!!

The question which always stalls me from plunging into the realm of "what books to read first?" is "should i start with life-changing books?" OR in general "what should be my criteria of these first books to read?"

@@GVSNEWS Love this suggestion, it inspired me already. Disclosure: Long ago my start was “Lord of the Rings”, cuz the movie inspired me inside out. The battle of good and evil (and the greys therein) is beautifully captured in this masterpiece of Tolkien.

I hugely appreciate you sharing your thoughts on these books. I was looking for a new book to start ever since I finished Homo deus. I also have a recommendation for you, it's Sapians written by Yual Noya Harari, you may already know this book as it is quite famous, but if not, please give it a thorough read, it's very insightful, and as a psychiatrist, I am sure you'll appreciate the nuances of our daily lives that go back thousands of years.

i dont know what kind of books you like, it must be something you are interested in. if you have read yuval noah two books do consider his third book on 21st century issue but in my opinion it isnt as amazing as his first two. do read about something you are interested in. dont read self improvement books which gets million reviews in general lol. do consider books from outside mainstream, something which you wouldnt find with reviews on amazon for example.

Sir I don't belong to politics or literature rather I belong to I.T and commerce , but the way you describe these books has developed interest in these books . great input on books, last few years books i read and im sure most of readers here as well if they are purchasing from amazon, or book stores the amazon algorithm decide what books you may choose and like. or newyork best sellers etc. however moeed input is extremely important folks!

Dr. Sahab, This is actually a very exciting project with a lot of potential. You can go in so many directions with this, such as recommending a book, and asking readers to leave comments while you summarize/highlight your perspective in a bi-monthly format. So it can be like an online book club. However I would highly recommend refraining from using rhetoric like literate, learned, or illiterate in reference to anyone who has read, not. Just for the sake of "dil azari na ho". Once again, fantastic, and thank you!
