A great layout, with lovely models, and nicely enacted to the song. That was what steam railroading was all about - hard slog, graft and muck. How I remember seeing the old 8F's daily at Colwich on the Trent Valley as a child - indeed, the last steam worked BR train I saw - the wrecking train from Crewe attending the Hixon disaster - had an 8F on the head of it. She was coming engine first, down from Crewe and waiting for the road at Colwich, where she'd reverse and push the crane back up the Knotty to the scene. They were grand engines - go anywhere, do anything.

These videos are actually great. You know what would be good? Putting faces on the locomotives. It’s easy. Cut out paper circles that fit onto the smoke box doors of the locomotives and draw faces on them, and if the locomotives are diesel or electric, make rectangles that fit. It’s so simple.

Yes this was considered, though I decided against it, wanting to have a play with real life locomotives and crews, yes I may do a TTTE adaptation but I would prefer to write it from the crewed perspectives or as the Dark Railway did, talking though without faces
