A documentary produced in 1979 by WGBH and the BBC to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Albert Einstein. Narrated and hosted by Peter Ustinov and written by Nigel Calder, the author of the accompanying book of the same title, the film takes place at the University of Texas' McDonald Observatory where a staff of renowned scientists and physicists take both Ustinov and the viewer through a hands-on experience of the various facets of Einstein's theory of general relativity.

Although this was produced a while back, it richly informs the viewer into each wondrous aspect of G.R. Easy to underdstand and without any over complicated descriptions. Famed British actor, Petet Ustinov reads from Einsteins notebook in a perfect "Hoch Deutch" accent- lending both credibility and genteel entertainment to the segments.😅 Also, a wonderful appearance by science legend, Prof. John Wheeler- makes this a top notch production and a "Must See" for anyone interested in the subject

Wow, it’s really saddening to see all the angry, hateful and ignorant comments on this video. The scientific method of questioning authority and testing and observing and validating the truth has brought humanity so far. I really hope that many people can see the beauty of modern science and physics, without giving into their own trauma and fears.

Nice documentary for sure. In contrary to some new video's here on KZbin, that are rather very fast paced, these old skool scientists seems to take their time to explain, this rather complex subject. I am undergraduate in electronics engineering, so quite technical, but never have learned about these subject of physics. You can say I am a laymen, and am looking for a good book that explains these concepts in detail. If you can recommend some please do so. Maybe a modern one with latest insights. For me the most confusing is the concept of time. I have an idea that we accommodate the time to fit the other parts of the equation. Maybe time does not even exists really. Maybe there is only matter and space. We need time to explain the causality and events. The 4th dimension. One part in this documentary is especially confusing to me and seems contradictory. They state that the clock mechanism itself is not affected by gravity. And also that for the observer of the clock in the space no difference can be seen. But one minute later they explain how the clock that spend some time in space actually deviate from the one left on the Earth. Obviously the time go faster in the space compared to the Earth, but we do not grow old at that faster pace? And if the time advances in the space how come more time has passed on the Earth? All very confusing still... So you see I need some good quality lecture 🙂

_Numerous anecdotes are being circulated concerning Einstein. He once told a girl secretary when she was bothered by inquisitive interviewers, who wanted to know what relativity really meant, to answer: “When you sit with a nice girl for two hours you think it’s only a minute, but when you sit on a hot stove for a minute you think it’s two hours. That’s relativity.”_ -The New York Times, March 1929 💕☮🌎🌌

This documentary is about Albert Einstein and his theory of relativity. The video starts with Nigel Calder, the writer, arriving at the McDonald Observatory to learn about Einstein's theory of relativity from a group of experts. John Wheeler, a physicist, introduces the concept of gravity. He demonstrates the concept by dropping a feather and a hammer on the moon, which fall at the same rate according to Einstein's theory. The video then explores the concept of curved spacetime. Einstein believed that gravity is not a force, but a curvature of spacetime caused by massive objects. The documentary talks about how Einstein's theory of relativity has been confirmed by astronomical observations, such as the deflection of light by gravity. The video also explores the cosmological implications of Einstein's theory, including the Big Bang and the possibility of a closed universe. Finally, the documentary discusses Einstein's legacy as a scientist and a humanitarian.

Time is fascinating. I worked the subway stations for nearly 10 years. From one end of the city to the other. Every so often I would notice the city would be saying that, "Today just flew by" or "The day was just dragging along." How can an entire city, with no interaction with each other until they used the subway, complain about the same time paradox unless it was effected by it? Maybe a time distorted bubble the earth passes through in its revolution around the sun. Maybe random waves of time distortion hitting the earth? Maybe they're given off by the sun. Maybe they're from outside our Terran system and reach us in intervals. ???? Ti-i-i-ime, is on my side. Yes, it is

Just listen as an entire city gets off of work and gets out of school. 2pm-9pm will cover the entire "window." You'll see it's more than a, "coincidence of circumstances."

"Interacting energy fields of quantum mechanics representing the cosmological constant of scientific gobbledegook correspond to black holes when you tune the primary transwarp field coils with dangling participles. This is because a watched clock never boils when loose ships sink lips. The intrinsic curvature of the vacuum energy density is only the iceberg of the tip. Such evidence points toward a universal truth creating and managing subspace analyzers to annotate and categorize content directly related to the probability distribution of potato salad. At this point, nobody can deny the truth that it's based on a true story about an out-of-body experience. Sometimes, we fail to believe what we see, as it shocks our consciousness. I’ll speak more about that specific phenomenon in a moment. The hydrogen wave function shows in a clear and understandable way that there are asteroids around Uranus. Real science doesn't lie. Don't be deceived about accordions. Play an accordion, go to jail. That's the law. I know that's difficult for you to accept. It's called cognitive dissonance." ---Albert Einstein

I remember this from when I was a kid, and I still love it. This is one of the videos that launched my earlier yearning to learn more about Space, and the Quantum World. Kip Thorne finally proved gravity waves, and I enjoyed reading his earlier book: Black Holes and Time Warps. I really believe our Universe is much older then what many think. It is at least 36 billion light years old. We can determine that from the black holes, quasars and pulsars that formed during the early stages of our universe. I'll leave it at that, so I don't bore anyone. It could be much older. But, it is at least 36 bil. light years. When we finally grasp a real understanding of existence, we will laugh, at how simple the answer, truly is.

It's all subjective and a matter of personal opinion, but it's still difficult imagining anyone coming anywhere close to the genius of Isaac Newton. I love the beauty, simplicity, and accuracy of Einstein's many contributions of classical physics and quantum physics. IMO, his biggest accomplishment was explaining why Newtonian mechanics and gravitation worked in spite of being incomplete.

My idea so I get to name it! Voyager 1 is now in interstellar time or "Mikey's Time." "V-ger's" message has sped up now that it's outside our suns time bubble or, "Terran Time." It will be faster still when "V-ger" sends a message from beyond the Milky Way's time bubble. (That name is still up for grabs.) Then there's Outside the Local Group time bubble, so on and so on until we get to the, "True Interstellar Time Standard." Now that "V-ger" is in interstellar space, it's also in the Milky Way's STANDARD, faster moving, interstellar time or "Mikey's Time." This can be proven by turning off everything except its clock and transmitter. Have "V-ger" read time for as long as possible. They WILL show the flow of time speeds up the further away you get from any celestial bodies. Until you reach the Milky Way's time standard or "Mikey's Time." •Our sun's time bubble: "Terran Time" we know and have measured. •Milky Way's time bubble or "Mikey's Time." The rate/flow of TIME outside any influence but within the Milky Way: We just got there and are still figuring. Wild guess I'd say time will increase in speed, now and until V-ger is outside the Ort cloud .007-.07% faster, maybe. Just for reference. •Local Group's time bubble or the rate/flow of time outside of any influence but within the Local Group: Name still open and unknown. Wild guess .08% to a couple seconds faster, maybe. Used just for reference. •Outside any influence in the, "True Interstellar Time Standard," or...;-P Name NOT up for grabs BUT just begging to be measured. The rate/flow of time is fastest here. (Time flows fastest here so it's best to have your motor boat.) ;-P A minute is a minute in all. It's the rate/flow I'm talking about. The Milky Way's Interstellar Time Standard will be known as, "Mikey's Time." Pass it on, please and thank you

Confusing part for me is the part at 50'26" where scientist explains that the clock itself is not affected (its mechanism) by it's position (on the Earth or in the space or even near a black hole), but later at 51'25" colleague scientists state that the clock that is taken from the Earth into a airplane or space for a while will have different reading once it has been back to Earth. How does this happen if the mechanism is not affected? Maybe I give myself the answer? Because the time really has a different pace once it is away from a gravity? Are there different kind of clocks tested? Mechanical, atomic and so on? ..
@Jasonfallen71

The clock is “slower” on an airplane or spacecraft as if it were in honey but nothing about the metal parts of the clock are changed or manipulated physically in any way. Spacetime itself changes when you go faster or slower. Seconds take longer, (or they pass faster) relative to observer watching from some other point in space like Earth’s surface.

Einstein tuvo una idea genial, no lo dudo, pero el primero que tuvo la idea de considerar las propiedades de la materia como una onda, fue el físico francés De Broglie, quien propuso esta idea en su tesis de grado.

CLEARLY, WHAT IS E=MC2 is KEY to understanding WHAT IS GRAVITY (ON/IN BALANCE). Indeed, c squared CLEARLY (AND NECESSARILY) represents a dimension of SPACE ON BALANCE !!! Couldn't black holes just be denser versions of suns? If this were true that could mean that Black Holes move "faster" than the speed of light. The sun is powerful because its large gravity pulls mass toward it, & its intense energy frequency, i.e. heat, forces all incoming matter to warp & transform into other energy. If black holes follow the same principle, then it could mean that they are just suns with a denser center point, meaning that all matter moving toward it would be moving at a rate faster than we can conceptualize as "light." I'm certain the Earth's most central, densest point is colder than the matter around it, hence why the constant shifting of energy hasn't resulted in the explosion of the Earth. The Sun must have a dense central point that remains slightly colder than all the matter around it, which is why we're able to determine a stable point for the sun. Light is just energy. All light is energy. All energy is not (pure) light. Black holes could maintain a center of energy so fast that it is incomprehensible to the simple, animal human mind.

There is no year zero that's why year 1 is the start of a new century or millennium. 0 is 10 not nil. So, if 1 is the beginning, then 9 or 99 or 999 is one year short of the turn. Think of it this way, if there was a year zero it would be describe as year one anyway.

1% disparity with his measurement is relativity. Today we also have particle physics. We can get much more accurate numbers, for our own concerns. Which are more or less building infrastructure. Newton is not dead at all. Measurement based on experience is still important. Experience is absolute, it is what it is, what you felt you experienced, you did. Therefore, what you do, is absolutely quantifiable. How to put it as an example? When we build our civilization, we do it with ourselves in mind, with our range of motion more or less. How we see the world, has always guided us, because we build things that are accessories to us. Measurements based purely on mental events, can derive a world. But measurements based on experience, can derive my world. What I’m suggesting is our tools are precisely tuned~dampened. So that we can get the most fluid dynamics, out of those tools. Why is fluidity important? Because we face a wall. Only silent equipment can move the stars. Noisy equipment makes imprecision vanish, but when it does, we lose any sort of criteria for building the world.

Einstein was a plagiarist. ‘’In 1875, four years before Albert Einstein was born, Samuel Tolver Preston published an amazing book entitled "Physics of the Ether". In it he set down the now famous formula E = mc2 and thoroughly explained its implications. Preston expressly stated that matter contains a store of energy which if fully utilized could create atomic bombs and atomic energy. He knew that atomic energy would someday replace coal. He also described superconductivity and asserted that gravity propagates at light speed. Long before Einstein, Preston completely relativized unipolar induction. His complete works are republished along with commentary and analysis by Christopher Jon Bjerknes who discovered the fact that Preston had anticipated Einstein by many decades and had a better understanding of E = mc2 than Einstein. Albert Einstein mistakenly believed that atomic bombs and atomic energy were impossible to produce.’’

E=mc2 shows that matter gets converted to energy as it is accelerated. Newton's F=ma does the same thing. You can tell Einstein didn't understand physics because in his Relativity universe, mass increases with acceleration in space. Take the aforementioned F=ma. If force stays the same ( speed of light constant). Acceleration is decreasing ( ticking of the clock/time), then mass must increase to balance the equation. The fact that the entire scientific community/public believes in this Relativity nonsense belies the collective stupidity of mankind.

If while moving 🚆, we will carry out the Michelson Morley experiment in it, approximately; using in the experiment, for 5000 m, an optical fiber wound in (not a round coil where the length to the width of the coils is approximately 2/1) and two coils are located "X", such as from one monolith with dimensions of 25 cm and a weight of 0.8 kg , which allows you to take additional noise protection.
