The book we’re referring to
www.amazon.com/Einstein-Syndr...
Sowell wrote a book called “The Einstein Syndrome: Bright Children Who Talk Late”
Einstein Syndrome, in my opinion, is another word for late talkers. Which is classified if a child has no other outstanding disorders, mental or physical impairments that contribute to language delay/disorder.
So basically a mild language delay. And the premise of the book describes how there isn’t a need for any intervention. Parents are guilt-tripped into taking their children to therapy.
This is my opinion. How do you know if your child will suddenly speak or not? There’s no guarantee for that. Whilst I don’t discount the chance that your child is gifted, what’s the harm in helping your child develop language a little faster?
There is literally no downside to taking time every day to interact with your child and provide a language-rich environment for him/her!

My son was over 4 years old before he could speak one word. He was very delayed in reading, writing, speaking, all language skills. He knew what photosynthesis was. I knew, he knew he knew, and his teachers knew he knew. Information did not go in, or come out, the way public school teaches. (I was lucky the teachers he had when he was young also picked up on this.) I pulled him out, and homeschooled him. He is 35 now and is an aerospace engineer.

@@PeggymibYour last sentence brought tears to my eyes since our son is also experiencing trouble speaking. Even though his reading and writing and counting seems to be excellent (reading is self taught btw) but he seems to have trouble understanding the meaning of things. As if sentences doesn’t make sense to him and it deeply frustrates him. 💔

So so so well said, finally I feel like someone is able to articulate what I have been struggling so much to explain to people close to my son whi have opinions on how I should be looking at the situation and managing him. I know they care and don't want me to be stressed and overwhelmed but this video just Nails the point that I'm mitigating risks not just 'stressing' when my child 'seems fine'. I see the good in him but that doesn't mean i should ignore what he's struggling with. It's 2 different things. Yes all children develop ay their own pace, but does that mean you bank on your own child 'catching up'. Some sadly do not, and that could be mine! Very well said, thank you. You've given me more words I can use in a simplified way when these topics come up.

My daughter is very smart. She loves puzzles and pretend play. She plays with different toys, too. She is artistic and athletic. She is so sweet. But she is not talking like her peers. She just turned 3 years old. Her doctor thinks she doesn't have autism but he can't provide an evaluation. He referred us to a professional who can. Her doctor thinks she has a speech delay. We are in the process of getting a speech evaluation as well. We also have an appointment with an audiologist and a neurologist. I'm so nervous, and I pray that everything goes well. I'm scared, but it is important that she gets support if she needs it. Please, pray for my little girl. 🙏

I’m a homeschool mom and I pulled my children out of public schools & speech therapy bcuz I felt there was no real help there! My son who’s now 9 couldn’t read on his level with the help of school & speech….once I pulled him away from all that and just gave him that one on one, he is now reading fluently…my youngest who’s mild to severe autistic who is now 7 is now reading, not on his grade level but is reading and it showed me that yes help can be helpful but when I took the seriousness out of it & allowed them time, play thru learning, one on one it took a lot of stress off me and my children. They’re learning at their own pace without someone down our necks pushing us to be what or where they want us to be. I’m at where my kids are and they’re thriving at their own pace! ✌🏾

My child spoke at age 2.5, when he finally said “Daddy”. At that point, he had a speech explosion. Up until then he said maybe 50-100 words. Now he speaks up a storm and reads at the 6th grade level and he’s in 2nd grade according to the PALS standardized test given in 1st grade!! He is not einstein (lol) but definitely ABOVE average. He’s a happy, extroverted, active boy who never stops talking 😅😅.

My son is 22 months and they diagnosed him with autism. 🙄 At first I was going with it but then after looking at your God sent videos. I’ve come to the realization that I did a horribly poor job as a mother. My baby was always in front of the TV. Then when I come from work I’m soo tired so then I go to bed. On top is all that I was very VERY depressed after my child birth and dieting and did very LIMITED TALKING. I’ve already done my crying and chasing myself. Now I’m ready to put in the work. I will still take the service Early intervention will provide. Currently he babbles. He says mama, baba and baby and then he says baaaaa like a little lamb.

Same here. My son understands spoken language, understands instructions, socializes, etc. But he's not using many words as most 5yo do. And I also admit that I did a poor job as a mom as I work a night shift so I was already tired when I get home so I just give him a phone or just turn on the TV. I was also suffering from post-partum depression and hyperthyroidism at that time.

My son is 2 1/2 and I think he’s autistic. He does speech therapy through an early intervention program but we haven’t gotten him diagnosed just yet. He says a lot of words when prompted (the alphabet, numbers, colors, shapes, animals and some action words) but he doesn’t say or understand (I think) action sentences or say basic words to communicate with us. He does the hand pulling all the time when he wants or needs something. I’m hoping the speech therapy helps. Thank you for this video!

My son is 2 1/2 in one month. He has been in speech for 6 months and he talks with his mouth closed. He hated it and knew when we were not going anymore he went from 7 words to 31 in a week. He can figure out puzzles and toys but will not speak unless it's what he wants. Mom. Dad. No. Outside. Yes. Go and ready. Those were the ones he used and needed. It depends on child.

It's an older book, back from when there was no widespread ideas of neurodiversity. Years ago it was pretty much all or nothing when it came to diagnosis and some parents of bright children with development delays were being told incorrectly that they had Classic Autism and/or that they would never speak and the parents would then often be pushed to put them in educational settings that were not really suitable.

That book gave me a piece of mind, because even so that all most of children were late talkers, I knew they was doing everything else normal, or Even ahead of time.. walking, changing clothing doing mimicking everything I did, but they didn't speak a single word till the was There, by the time they went to kindergarten the spoke like toddlers and that's why I started stressing a little, because they now are learning how to read, and getting sing words for homework.. but the started speaking just find and driving me nuts , I soon began missing the quit days 😅, my Advice for parents is if your kids is developing as a baby normally if you know the kid can heard you, if not hard to tell the kids can heard.. my kids were dancing before they could walk ... Don't worry about it and don't compared your kids with others.. because the children in my family that was early talker weren't necessary the best that performed academically... Sometimes trying to hard make things worse..

I don't think the book is saying that you should not seek any form of therapy. The issue is has is the educators in schools with little to no qualification in the speech sciences cause parents anxiety by diagnosing their child with autism and other impairments and then placing them in mismatched schools and programs which has it own negative consequences. The author premises the need for scientific research into this phenomenon as the detriment of speed diagnosis of pre-existing speech condition in the scientific literature cannot be ignored. There are are children who are different and speech delayed, but not all can be lumped into these pre-existing categories.

Hi, my son is 3 1/2 years old and he only can say the alphabet and the numbers up to 20. He recently started to wave whenever we say hello or goodbye. He sometimes plays with his older brother and he likes to play with certain toys like big piece lego and shapes with magnets on them to stick them together. He copies me whenever I clean the house which he learnt by watching me for a few months. He copies action well and eats by himself (like snacks) but he seems to have no interest in talking. Can you give some advice please.

That is not true. I have read sowells book on the Einstein syndrome and his book 'late talking children' that you must read before. He is not advising parents to not see a s&lt. He is actually saying the opposite, but to get more then one evaluation. Plus may I add his findings on the Einstein theory are based on the study and data he collected on the families that contacted him and who he spoke about in his book that all shared the same traits. .

My son is autistic and adhd, it's genetic..I have both, his sister and his dad all have adhd and autism. Now, my son at 3 was speaking Spanish and spelling big words, reading exceptionally well, but was considered nonverbal. At 5, went to kindergarten, still nonverbal but he's a genius, and going into kindergarten he was reading at 6th grade level... was considered one of three best readers in the whole school. My son , I knew at 3 he was autistic, couldn't get diagnosed til 6. I had issues with speech therapy because they were using ABA therapy behind my back... she wanted to force eye contact and I took him out of public school because the school used his brilliance for proof their criteria was working... Please understand, if he wasn't autistic, he wouldn't be my kid...embrace the autism in your autistic. I am so sad that Manu of his stimming behavior he stopped due to masking neurotypical.. ABA therapy is awful, and has many similar tactics that narcissistic grooming has. My son speaks well now, yet many things he says don't seem related to the subject, yet, my uncle Skip did the exact thing. Please , hear me when I say, meet other autistics and learn perspective from them. Learn about cptsd and really research before doing ABA therapy. Ask questions, and remember, you parents are our people, our safe space, don't let acting neurotypical or fearing what you don't know about autism or the idea of this future for your child get in the way of the present moment now, follow your heart, I took my kid out of school because his anxiety was so bad he stopped eating...they were giving candy all day at school, ABA tactics to show ability..like reading better than the whole elementary school the first month arriving 🙃 Learn about PDA Pathological demand avoidance, ODD oppositional defiance disorder, dysphagia aphasia, selective mutism, apica even...everything goes together if you notice.. I believe my son has aphasia or dysphagia because he makes a choking sounds when upset, his throat close...and that is probably why he also stopped eating at school. Please, don't compare your autistic with anyone ever! See the can, not the can't, and remember, you also may be undiagnosed autistic and masking neurotypical, and when that mask slips, it's the worst feeling ever... I see similarities with masking neurotypical and same as NPD, narcissistic personality disorder, we mask to blend in, charm, and fawning can seem very similar. Future seeking framework for certainty and safety, and if you're in ABA therapy, they push you to mirror others. ABA is control the autistic with prompts, NLP anchoring tactics to push to change the authentic autistic for a masking neurotypical autistic, and it's conditioning tactics, they don't just do it to the child, but "pair" with the parents as well. The instructor uses controlled framework and prompts, and anchoring tactics, to condition the behavior away...please don't do that, and meet adult autistics that have been through ABA so you know what to watch out for. My son learned the ABA formula, and that's why they can't get enough of him..they eat it right out of his hand.. that's because the subconscious sees tactics working so a brainwasher is more likely to get brainwashed with their own tactics. My son is quite good at his craft, but, future relationships will most definitely be effected.

Einstein was definitely autistic, the same can be said about a lot of geniuses who are extraordinary in certain subjects, because of their hyperfocus, often aimed at particular and strange interests, yet the lack in their social and communicative skills, which certainly was the case with Einstein, Newton, Nikola Tesla. The fact of the matter remains that every autistic person is different, but it does not mean you son or daughter has the Einstein Syndrome. Most probably they are just autistic, which isn't a bad thing. Often they are the people who change the world in a dramatic way. Elon Musk is another person for example who got diagnosed with Asperger's and it is quite clear when listening to him, watching his body language (quite stiff) and often being quite honest to the point it comes across rude to a neurotypical person.
