I love these guys. I saw them a couple times in Chicago in the early 90's. I was not goth or industrial, I was just a regular guy who loved music and hung out in the back. They had nothing in the way of lights or special effects, but they were thoroughly creative and entertaining. One thing I respect about them is that, as great as they are, they never sold out.

I wish I had been older when this and the good Bad seeds stuff first came out. I've been listening to it for getting on 10 years, but to have been older when they were doing it, to go and see them live would have been mind blowing. *sigh* music is just not the same any more. EN over NIN and Ministry any bloody day.

It was on the Interimlovers EP. There was the English version, the German version, Ring My Bell, and one or two more. It had a humming bird on the cover and inside the members sitting at a table. My first exposure to EN was watching the English version on Teletunes. I clearly remember one of the members wearing a Metallica shirt, too. If you listen carefully, there's a snippet of the song in the Island of Dr. Moreau.

@W4RW017 there are dozens of EN samples throughout the "Some Great Reward" album. The most obvious ones are on "People are People". There are others, but I can't think of them off-hand.

aaaaaaaaaaaactually, that would be a little difficult, seeing how Trent Reznor was still playing with Option 30 in 1984 before moving on to Exotic Birds in 1986. This was the band he was with when he shot the scene for "Light of Day" with Michael J. Fox. He didn't begin work on the Nine Inch Nails stuff till he was working as a janitor for Right Track Studio in 1988, eight years after Neubauten formed.

American kids who accidentately came across this page: Yop, this is not Brittnie Schbiers, try to cope with it!

It's music. I don't think any label fits EN. They could turn out this type of song and then play something like stella marris and the two cannot be compared if you know what I mean. But they have been around a long time. So they older they get the more types of instruments and ideas they can come up with would keep changing their sound. It's very brave to keep moving and not sticking with the stuff that got you where you are. True musicians ever faithful to their ideas and intent. Love them.

Sometimes artists touch areas that are called cliche or pretentious and they do it with full awareness of the fact. And this awareness is what distinguish them from those, that you really can call pretentious. And if in one vid they are deciding to use some kind of convention, please do not mistake it for anything else, for you will risk ill-considered judgement.
@aikighost16 жыл бұрын
Did I say sound like? Just listen to the two bands read some interviews and you can help but notice how similar Al and Trent's motivations seem to be. To be honest I also think they do have a lot in common audio wise, excepting that NINs work tends to have a more traditional song structure.

"Bands like Skinny Puppy, NIN, Ministry, Etc. are post-industrial bands. " Yeah from what I've read you are right but I think it's fair to say those latter bands perfected the medium more. I definatley see an influence fo Crackdwon on Skinn Puppy's Testure.

I like both Einsturzende Neubauten and Nine Inch Nails and I'm intelligent enough to see they don't have ANYTHING in common. So please stop making pointless comparisons between them. The only thing they share? A great, mind-blowing talent. That's all.

@orchidtender And Neubauten (and Foetus) owe their sound to Stockhausen, John Cage, Pierre Schaeffer and Luigi Rusollo (hell, even Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music). They in turn owe their sounds to others before them. All interesting art makes reference to previous contexts. I jumped on the bashing Trent bandwagon way back when he was a pup taking over industrial music and turning it into disco, but 20 years later, I now have a respect for his work. He has integrity that many don't.

or.. u could say than nin is industrial.. and EN is experimental industrial.. there's always different perspectives. But then again.. industrial music doesn't conform to only a single variant.. but encapsulates a variety of musical creativity, which is due to the technology that makes music seem limitless.
